PORTLANDThe Portland <strong>Phi</strong> <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>Theta</strong> AlumniClub Founder's Day banquet was an outstandingevening for young and old. About80 people attended the banquet at theOregon Health Sciences Center on April 24.Ten of those guests were active membersfrom Oregon Alpha and 11 were activesfrom Oregon Beta.The highlight of the event was the GoldenLegion Ceremony that inducted 10 brotherswho have been members of <strong>Phi</strong> <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>Theta</strong>for 50 years or more. The following brotherswere inducted: Robert EUiott (Oregon'40), John Nelson (Oregon '40), GeorgeMackin (Oregon '40), Clay CarroU (Oregon'38), Ralph Floberg (Oregon State'40), Roy Pflugrad (Oregon State '40),Lester Copenhagen (Oregon State '40),Robert Tarrant (Oregon State '40), DuaneBarickman (<strong>No</strong>rth Dakota '32), and John"Jack" Patrick (New Hampshire '40).President Dick Fettig welcomed guests,while brother Scott EUingson of the MarriottCorp. catered the evening. Kelly De-Lacey was the master of ceremonies for theevent. Sponsoring the ceremony were AlbertBauer, George Mimnaugh, CUffPowers, Howard Hobson and WiU White.The evening was festive and the ambiencewas filled with reminiscences of days goneby. In a gesture of <strong>Phi</strong> brotherhood, brotherHobson, former coach of the University ofOregon "Tall Firs" NCAA national championsin basketball, sponsored brother Pflugrad,a basketball standout in his days atOregon State.Monthly meetings of the Portland AlumniClub will be held the first Wednesday ofevery month from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. atthe Riverside Cafe in Portland. A golf tournamentis planned for June 24 and a Day atthe Dog Races is scheduled for July. He left us onthe note that the future was very bright for<strong>Phi</strong> <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>Theta</strong> and that this past year forhimself has been quite an experience, onehe'll never forget.We also had Scott Baughan, a <strong>Phi</strong> seniornow attending Eckerd College and a transfereefrom the Universitry of South Florida.Eckerd College is located in St. Petersburgonly a short distance from where our alumnifunctions take place. We have high hopes ofeventually establishing a colony at EckerdCollege with Scott spearheading it in it'sinitial phases with encouragement fromBrother Edward Hopper, president Chi-South Province.As we wound down our 1987-88 year,our last social function took place on thepleasure craft "The Captain Anderson" includinga dinner/dance cruise on BocaCeiga Bay (translated from the Spanishsettlers, "Blind Mouth") on April 22.Dinner was chosen from five entrees. Wehad our largest turnout, ever, thanks to ourbrother Lyman (Bud) Cherry and hislovely wife, Jeanne for making all of thearrangements and providing us with a spectacularevening for this most popular andgala event.A slate of officers, some new and someold, were nominated and elected at ourmeeting on May 13 to carry on next yearbeginning with our officers instaUation banquetto be held on September 30, 1988 atthe Breckenridge Resort Hotel, St. PetersburgBeach, FL.
