Recently, however, the years have been wearing onthe 65-year-old building. The House Asso- 'ciation has begun ambitious fund raisingand renovation plans which will bring thehouse back to its former splendor.Numerous electrical, mechanical, andstructural deficiencies and code violatijgishave been identified throughout the physicalplant. Plans call for remedy of these violations, along with extensive cosmetic remodelingin all public areas, study areas, andbedrooms. The new campaign's goal will be wellover $500,000. An earlier fund raisingeffort, the "Going for 100" campaign, raisedapproximately $70,000 in pledges and$30,000 in paid contributions. The successof this effort encouraged the House Associationto plan a large campaign to fully meetthe needs of the chapter house. The alumni, ably assisted by the undergraduatechapter, are pursuing the campaignin earnest. A Chicago firm is providing professionalfund raising counsel, and theHouse Association has hired RobertMadayag ('86) as full time campaigncoordinator.Eta alumni have responded to the campaignwith enthusiasm. Many said they planto help the chapter in order to honor thevalue gained during their own undergraduateexperience. "Each generation of activeschooses the next group of Phis," said BobBalsley ('57). "Likewise, each generation ofalumni must sustain the chapter by doingwhat the undergrads can't: providing neededsupport for the physical plant. A successfulchapter is a partnership." Said DickLeighton ('49), "Phi Delta Theta is a lifelongcommitment."* * *After over 35 years in our present location,Minnesota Alpha is moving next doorto significantly larger quarters in therecently renovated house at the corner of10th Avenue and 4th Street. The move has been undertaken to createadded live-in capacity which will greatlyenhance the economies of scale needed torun a fraternity house in today's economy. An open house is being planned in conjunctionwith Homecoming. ,
