Introduction1.4 Important safety informationThe safety instructions <strong>and</strong> warnings described here areintended to safeguard your health as well as protect theproduct. The following points must be read throughcarefully.Damage resulting from inappropriate use or the failure toobserve these instructions or safety information is notcovered by the guarantee. Liability will not be acceptedfor secondary damage.General conditionsProduct damage from incorrect <strong>operation</strong>in stormy weather!If the recommended wind speed limits areexceeded (see Tab. 2), damage to the <strong>external</strong><strong>venetian</strong> <strong>blinds</strong> can be expected.• Raise the <strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong> <strong>blinds</strong> to theupper limit position <strong>and</strong> take out of service.Product damage from incorrect behaviourin windy weather!Especially in winter, the product can be expectedto freeze up. In cold temperatures,raise the product to the upper limit position<strong>and</strong> take it out of service.Do not use the product in icy weather. Theproduct must be cleared of ice <strong>and</strong> snow beforeit can be used. Liability cannot be acceptedfor damage to the product resulting from the<strong>operation</strong> under icy conditions.Operating notesProduct damage from power failure!Motorised <strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong> <strong>blinds</strong> cannot beraised <strong>with</strong>out power. Inappropriate use may result in significant danger.All <strong>venetian</strong> <strong>blinds</strong> for <strong>external</strong> use are designed for awind load of 1.1 kN/m² (DIN 1055). Product information2.4 Wind speed limitsFor <strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong> <strong>blinds</strong>, the use of wind speed limits(see Tab. 2) is recommended depending on the producttype. If the wind speed limits are reached, the unit mustbe raised. Operation3 Operation NOTEOnly operate the product if it is in technically perfectcondition.3.1 Operation of the <strong>crank</strong> driveLowering/raising the unit using the collapsible <strong>crank</strong>• Turn the collapsible<strong>crank</strong> clockwise/anticlockwise.Stop the <strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong>blind in any position:Slow the turning movementof the <strong>crank</strong> downbefore fully lowering orraising the unit.• Do not turn any furtherwhen you feel a resistance.3.2 Operating the <strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong> blinddrive NOTEDuring the cold season, unfavourable installation<strong>and</strong> building situations can lead to malfunctions ordamage due to the effects of sub-zero temperatures<strong>and</strong> ice. This is caused by moisture on theproduct due to dew, rain or snow that freezes. Thismoisture freezes at sub-zero temperatures.This is a natural process that cannot be influencedby the manufacturer. Even <strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong> blinddrives <strong>with</strong> obstacle detection do not provide fullprotection.Tilting the slats <strong>with</strong> the <strong>crank</strong>• Turn the <strong>crank</strong> in thedesired direction. Operation3.3 Operation using the central control unit3.4 Incorrect <strong>operation</strong>CAUTIONProduct damage from failure of the <strong>external</strong>control unit! The control unit is not functionalunder certain critical conditions (e.g. powerfailure or malfunctions).• Set the <strong>external</strong> control unit to manual ifyou are going to be away.Operation during a storm• Raise the <strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong>blind when thepermissible wind speedlimit is exceeded (seeTab. 2). NOTE• Adjust the central control unit in such a waythat continuous <strong>operation</strong> of the <strong>motor</strong> isavoided. The <strong>motor</strong>s used in these productsare not intended for continuous <strong>operation</strong>. Theintegrated thermal protection will switch the<strong>motor</strong> off after approx. 4 minutes. The productwill be ready for use again after approx. 10 to15 minutes.• Instructions on how to operate this feature arecontained in a separate manual.• Before using your balconyor terrace, switchoff the automatic controlif the product ismounted in front of theonly entrance. Otherwiseyou could lockyourself out. NOTEAn emergency power supply is recommended forwindy regions <strong>with</strong> frequent power failures.Operation in cold weatherCAUTIONProduct damage from forceful <strong>operation</strong>! Ensure that dangeroussituations do not arise.• Always keep the projectionarea of the <strong>external</strong><strong>venetian</strong> blind clear ofobstacles.Access to operating elements• Never let children play<strong>with</strong> the operating elementsof the <strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong>blind – such asthe h<strong>and</strong>-held transmitteror switches.• Keep the h<strong>and</strong>-heldtransmitter away fromchildren.Optimal bottom rail position in cable-guided <strong>external</strong><strong>venetian</strong> <strong>blinds</strong>• If the unit hits anobstacle after all, theblind first needs to beraised slightly before theobstacle is removed.• Keep people away fromthe <strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong>blind as long as the productis moving!Products <strong>with</strong> electricalcontrol units may start movingat any time <strong>and</strong> <strong>with</strong>outprior notice. Ensure thatdangerous situations do notarise. Care/maintenance4 Care/maintenanceGeneral information on care <strong>and</strong> maintenanceProper <strong>and</strong> regular care <strong>and</strong> maintenance <strong>and</strong> the use oforiginal spare parts only are essential for fault-free <strong>operation</strong><strong>and</strong> a long product life.CAUTIONRisk of injury from slat edges!• Do not reach through the flat slats.• Do not touch the cutting edges of the slats. NOTEEnsure that the product is not moved during maintenance<strong>and</strong> repair work in its direct proximity –e.g. window-cleaning.A monitored, overriding locking mechanism mustprevent every kind of <strong>operation</strong>.WARNINGRisk of injury <strong>and</strong> product damage from<strong>operation</strong> of the product while it is outof sight!• De-energise <strong>and</strong> lock out the product.• Do not operate the product duringmaintenance <strong>and</strong> cleaning work.• Disconnect the product from theautomatic control <strong>and</strong>/or powersupply.DANGERRisk of injury <strong>and</strong> falling!• Do not rest climbing aids against the product.• Climbing aids must rest on a solid foundation<strong>and</strong> offer good support.4.1 Care instructionsTo ensure the longest possible life, werecommend you clean the surface of the productregularly or at least once a year.If the first cleaning takes place years afterinitial installation, the product cannot be returnedto its original condition.Replacement claims cannot be honoured onthe grounds of these cleaning <strong>and</strong> care instructionsbecause the effectiveness of thesemeasures depends on a large number of factorsthat vary from case to case.CAUTIONProduct damage from incorrect cleaning!• Do not use high pressure washers, abrasivecleansers or sponges, <strong>and</strong> solvents such asalcohol or naphtha.• Risk of corrosion! Do not use chlorinatedcleaning agents on or near the product.• Ensure that water does not penetrate into thetop rail. Water can lead to functional problems<strong>and</strong> short circuits.• Do not hold on to or pull on the product orparts of the product.• Do not bend the slats.• Perform a functional check <strong>with</strong> the product. Care/maintenance• Clean the product regularly (see "Cleaning procedure"table). To do so, lower the <strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong>blind.Cleaning procedureClean the surfaces <strong>with</strong> a suitable cleaningagent.Remove dirt or objects from the product.• Clean the guide rod (for top-mounted <strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong>blind for new buildings <strong>and</strong> <strong>venetian</strong> blindwindow systems) <strong>and</strong> light well cover (for A5) <strong>with</strong>lubricant for plastics.• Check the operating elements, lifting tapes <strong>and</strong>guiding nipples for visible wear <strong>and</strong> damage.• Check the installation substructure for damage.• Check that the <strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong> blind is functioningproperly. Watch the product as it travels the fullrange of movement <strong>and</strong> look out for any unusualbehaviour or noises.• Have any damage repaired by a qualified specialistas soon as possible.4.2 Maintenance instructionsThe product must be maintained regularly orat least once a year.Inspection <strong>and</strong> maintenance work is only tobe carried out by an appropriately qualifiedspecialist. We recommend you take out amaintenance agreement <strong>with</strong> a qualified specialist.The <strong>WAREMA</strong> warranty becomes invalid ifthe unit is not cleaned properly at least oncea year.DANGERRisk of injury through irregular maintenance!• Check the product regularly for signs ofwear <strong>and</strong> damage, e.g. on the <strong>motor</strong> line.• Do not use products in need of repair. Inthis case, move the products to the upperlimit position <strong>and</strong> take them out of service.DANGERElectric shock!When inspecting or maintaining electricalparts, the unit must be de-energised <strong>and</strong>locked out.• Check the product for visible wear, for damage to the<strong>motor</strong> line <strong>and</strong> to ensure it is securely attached (e.g.check that the screws have a firm hold).• Ensure that it is functioning properly <strong>and</strong> check theswitch-off points of the blind.• Check the lifting tapes, guiding nipples <strong>and</strong> cables forwear or damage.• Check that the guide elements are firmly seated <strong>and</strong>the cable guidance is taut.• The battery needs to be changed in systems <strong>with</strong> aradio remote control.• Inform the operator of operating risks (e.g. ice formation).[B866096_6] - EN / 01.08.12 Page 12 of 20 Subject to change <strong>with</strong>out notice


Care/maintenance/warrantyDANGERFunctional problems <strong>and</strong> product damage dueto incorrect <strong>operation</strong> in frosty conditions! The<strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong> blind can freeze up belowthe specified temperature (+ 3 °C).• Do not operate frozen <strong>external</strong> <strong>venetian</strong><strong>blinds</strong>.• Avoid using force to operate frozen <strong>external</strong><strong>venetian</strong> <strong>blinds</strong>. This may damage the<strong>blinds</strong>.• In cold temperatures, retract the <strong>external</strong><strong>venetian</strong> <strong>blinds</strong> to the upper limit position<strong>and</strong> take them out of service.• We recommend the use of an ice monitoringsystem.5 WarrantySubject to the statutory period of limitation for warrantyclaims. This requires regular maintenance.
