Her co-hostess,Mary Berge, who was the shopper ofthe day for the menu drove down fromPescadero, CA. a day early to help MaryAssistance League of Huntington Beachby Sloan GallipeoFor those of you who were able toattend our April 17th fundraiser at theHyatt, thank you! It was a wonderfulday and we netted $115,000 and had 550guests. The proceeds from our fundraisergo to help our community programswhich give to children and adults in need.Our service areas are Huntington Beach,Fountain Valley, and Westminster. Ourbiggest program is called OperationSchool Bell which is our longest runningprogram for school children. We startedclothing school children at a Targetstore in Huntington Beach this year andwere able to help at least 1,200 childrenbetween September and January. Wealso were able to help clothe some of thehomeless high school students in the localcommunity.Membership update: This year wehave 60 new members! That is a recordand we are so grateful to have so manywith the menu and the shopping! Theluncheon started with a delicious SpinachArtichoke Three-cheese dip preparedby the hostess followed by the PapayaAvocado salad prepared by MarianGalinas. A wonderful Beef Tenderloinwith Port Wine-Red Currant Reductionwas the main entrée of the day along witha smashed Yukon Gold Potatoes withParsnips and Garlic Roasted Asparagusthat the hostess herself cooked outside onthe barbecue.Dessert was a delicious StrawberryPoke Cake that Betty McCarthy cookedenthusiastic members that want to giveback to the community by volunteering inour thrift shop and helping with our philanthropicprograms. Our group is nowover 200 members!
