PRO TALKPro GemA new gem is shining from the basement office of Heartland Golf, and sheis none other than the warm and friendly Ruby Chico – the latest to joinHeartland’s line-up of Golf Pros.Hailing from the Philippines, Ruby is a seasoned veteran of various internationaltournaments. Competing actively since she was 10, Ruby topped JuniorWorld, ranking first in its International Division and fifth overall; representedPhilippines in the Asian Games, and performed outstandingly in othertournaments such as the World Amateur Championships in Canada andGermany, and the South East Asian Games (SEA).Ruby successfully juggled university studies with being part of Brigham YoungUniversity’s Women’s Golf Team; went on to win two tournaments and easilyclinched the “Player of the Year” title in her second year with the Cougars GirlsTeam. Ruby had also competed in NCAA Division 1 tournaments with AnnikaSorenstam and many other top players. She qualified in the Futures Tour in theUS and played there as a professional golfer in 2001-2002. Early last year, Rubyjoined the Ladies’ Asian Golf Tour to play for the Playability Test in order to getinto the LPGA program.After retiring from competition, Ruby made good use of her degree inRecreation Management as the General Manager of the Adidas Sports Kamp,Tournament Director of the Jungolf Association of the Philippines and theProfessional Sports Management Group. Prior to arriving in Singapore in 2007,Ruby taught golf at Makati Golf in the Philippines for five years, which includedall levels of juniors, seniors and amateur golfers.
