IntroductionCongratulations on your purchase of the VIV-PG-XSI. The VIV-PG-XSI is a battery grip forCanon EOS Digital Rebel XSI/EOS 450D digital SLR cameras. It is capable of holding twoLP-E5 or six AA sized batteries. It is also equipped with a vertical grip shutter button, and aMain dial, which will enable shooting in the same way as a horizontal grip.-3-

Attaching Your Power Grip to Your Camera1. Remove the battery that is in yourcamera (See figure 1.)2. Pull out the camera’s battery compartmentcover at a slanted angle to remove it. (Seefigure 2) It is advised to do this over a table soyou do not drop your camera.-6-

Remove the protective cover, andthen insert the electrical contacts ofyour power grip into the batterycompartment of your camera. Seefigure 4.5.Align the attachment screw with thecamera’s tripod socket, and then turnthe attach/detach knob to tighten thepower grip securely to your camera.See figure 4.-7-

Your camera may not display the correct amount of powerprovided by your battery grip if you attach the battery grip with the battery magazine alreadyloaded.Before removing your battery grip from your camera, make sure to turn the power switch onyour camera to the OFF position, and to also remove the battery magazine. Once thebattery grip is removed, attach the included protective cover over the electric contacts ofyour battery grip.-8-

After attaching, checkthat the battery magazine is securelyattached to the battery grip.4. Close the release handle. (seefigure 7) The camera will not workunless the handle is closed.-10-

Iftwo batteries packs are inserted, power is supplied simultaneously by both battery packs.Two battery packs at different charging levels can be used without any complications.-11-


Inserting AA Batteries1. Insert your AA batteries into thebattery magazine. Make sure thebatteries are inserted with the + and –ends in the directions shown on thebattery magazine. See figure 8.2. Attach the battery magazine into thebattery grip. See figure 9. Afterattaching, check that the batterymagazine is securely attached to thebattery grip.3.Close the release handle. The handle needs to be closed for yourcamera to work properly.-12-


Inserting AA Batteries (continued)NOTE: When AA sized batteries are being used, the continuous shooting speed d will slowdown. Also, fewer images can be shot. Therefore, usage of AA batteries is recommendedonly for emergencies. Use of AA batteries is also not recommended when connecting thecamera to a computer.When using disposable AA batteries the camera may not function when using at temperaturesbelow 20°C/68°F or for certain battery brands and in some storage conditions.Only insert six new batteries that are of the same brand. Do not use old and new batteriestogether.-13-


Using an AC power OutletTo connect to a household power outlet use the AC adapter kit ACK-E2 (sold separately).1. Connect the power cord to the AC adapter, and then connect the power cord to apower outlet. Connect the DC cord to the DC coupler, (Refer to ACK-E5 instructions)2. Load the DC coupler into therelease handle side battery packcompartment of the battery magazine(for LP-E5) and then attach to thebattery grip. Pass the DC cordthrough the DC cord hole. Seefigure 10.-14-


Using an AC Power Outlet (continued)NOTE: Do not connect or disconnect the power cord while the camera power switch is in theON position. Be careful that the DC cord does not get pinched between the battery grip andthe battery magazine-15-


Using the Battery GripTurn the vertical grip ON/OFF switch tothe ON position (see figure 11) in order tomake the buttons and dials on your powergrip function in the same way as those onyour camera.When shooting in the horizontal grip position, turn the vertical grip ON/OFF switch to theOFF position so that you do not accidentally use the buttons or dials on the power grip.CAUTIONRemove the power supply from your power grip when your camera will not be used for anextended period of time.Never attempt to disassemble or repair this device. Any malfunction or accident resultingfrom such action is not covered by your warranty.-16-
