ConclusionThe greater Adelaide region is to be congratulated on taking a firmand aggressive stand on determining its future. South Australia’sStrategic Plan, The 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide, the IntegratedDesign Commission and a host of other initiatives set South Australiaand the greater Adelaide region apart from most other areas of theworld. The government of South Australia, its Premier and Cabinet areto be commended for being bold in shaping the future of the stateand its capital city. Too often, areas allow outside forces – or worse,happenstance – to control how an area evolves and grows. By settinga clear direction, the state and the greater Adelaide region are wellon a course to shaping their future in a way that will preserve whatis essential to the identity of the area, while at the same time beingclear on a different, and much more sustainable, development patternand public transport system. This course will promote liveability andeconomic vitality in all neighbourhoods as well as the central urbancore.C O N C L U S I O NThis report is aimed at speeding up this journey, at least insome areas. I am honoured to have been a Thinker in Residenceand to have come to know and love the region.
