WIP has <strong>the</strong> story.Southampton General Hospital is <strong>the</strong>Trust’s largest lmedical facility. The1,000-bed hospital currently providesa number of valuable specialist servicesincluding neurosciences, oncology,pathology and cardiology.Providing <strong>the</strong> best possible healthcareservice while maintaining complex infrastructuresis a challenge for any hospital.Fur<strong>the</strong>rmore, new environmental targetsand energy legislation mean thatresources and often investment are vitalto enable <strong>the</strong>se facilities to benefit frommodern energy efficient technologies.Dalkia, with its 80 years’ experience inproviding energy management to <strong>the</strong>healthcare sector now helps more than100 <strong>UK</strong> hospital sites meet <strong>the</strong> carbonreduction strategies, reduce costs whiledemonstrating sustainability.The original operating agreement wasfirst enhanced in 2000 when Dalkia built a2MWe CHP-based energy centre with4MWe standby generation for <strong>the</strong> supplyof steam, hot water and electricity.Southampton Hospital’s new 15-yearcontract will provide a fur<strong>the</strong>r £2.5millionupgrade and will include 2MWE CHP from<strong>the</strong> specialist CHP division, Cogenco, anda combination waste heat/fired boiler todeliver heating, hot water and electricityto <strong>the</strong> healthcare establishment.Cogenco currently provides a packagedCHP solution which is designed to match aclient’s site needs.Using dedicated assembly and test facilities<strong>the</strong> company can deliver and installcomplete systems – providing <strong>the</strong> advantageof quick delivery and expert installationso that any site can gain <strong>the</strong> benefitof CHP energy without <strong>the</strong> problems associatedwith protracted installation.Cogenco’s CHP units are supplied ascomplete solutions incorporating all <strong>the</strong>necessary components and controlsystems. These are supplied in an acousticenclosure which can be specified forinternal or external deployment.Installation requires connection to <strong>the</strong>fuel supply and to <strong>the</strong> heating andelectricity infrastructures.Cogenco's CHP solutions cover all electricaloutput requirements from 30kW to2MW and beyond with heat outputs from65kW to 2.3MW and are said to be wellsuited for many types of commercial,public sector, industrial and residentialdevelopment.The new agreement also includes <strong>the</strong>installation of a complex low temperaturehot water, LTHW, heat recovery systemthat will effectively utilise <strong>the</strong> heat producedas a by-product of <strong>the</strong> generationprocess.
