While some applicationsfor LEDs, such as automotive lightingand mobile phones, have been badly hitby the current recession, the lighting sectoris in good health. LEDs continue to penetratean increasing range of lighting applications,with greater use of white LEDs inareas such as street lighting and even indoorillumination.At Strategies in Light, held February 18-20,2009 in Santa Clara, California, attendeesand exhibitors were optimistic about thepotential for growth in the lighting market.The 2009 event, in its 10th year, is organizedby market research firm Strategies Unlimitedand supported by LEDs Magazine as theflagship media sponsor. Steele said themarket for packaged HB-LED devices grewby 11% in 2008, but is likely to contract by 5%in 2009.
