ZACKENBERG <strong>BIRD</strong>S 2007and the fates of one Dunlin (outside the censusarea) and one sanderling nest is unknown. Onlyfour nests of Red Knot were found this season,and all hatched successfully. No CommonRinged Plover, Red Phalarope (Phalaropusfulicarius) nor Red-necked Phalarope (Phalaropuslobatus) nests were found in 2007. However, aCommon Ringed Plover juvenile – with downyneck and still accompanied by two adults – wasseen on 11 July. This suggests that the bird wasapproximately 20 d old, giving a first egg datearound 23 May. That would be the earliest firstegg estimated for Zackenberg.The Arctic fox is the most likely predator ofmost nests, as only few nests were found withclear signs of avian predators.
