On 22 July, a singleindividual was seen in neighbouring valley,Cardiocerasdal, while the other bird was spottedon the slopes of Aucellabjerg on 22 August. Inthe time after the usual monitoring period, aSnowy Owl was seen on the lower slopes ofAucellabjerg, 25 September.A White Wagtail (Motacilla alba) visitedZackenberg on 31 May. This is only the 2ndrecord for Zackenberg. The White Wagtail is arare visitor to Northeast Greenland, although itmight have bred in Daneborg in 1996 (Meltofte1997) – c. 25 km from Zackenberg.ACKNOWLEDGEMENTSBird observations were made by Niels MartinSchmidt (25 May - 5 June), Jannik Hansen (5June – 31 July), and Lars Holst Hansen (25 May– 2 September). Jeroen Reneerkens and his teamworked at Zackenberg from 5 June – 7 August.Other researchers and staff provided muchvalued information throughout the season. The BioBasis programme at Zackenberg iscarried out by the National EnvironmentalResearch Institute (NERI), Department of ArcticEnvironment, Aarhus University, Denmark. It isfunded by the Danish Environmental ProtectionAgency as part of the environmental supportprogram DANCEA – Danish Cooperation forEnvironment in the Arctic. Anthony C.
