CONCLUSIONpersonally do not win in our lifetimes, our successors who organize interms of our principles will win. 3 Now is not the time for caution; thestakes are too high, and it is too late in the conflict.Rushdoony's comments on the meaning of destiny and conspiracyneed to be taken seriously:The reluctance to call one's own position a conspiracyrests on the premise that destiny cannot be conspiracy; itis historical inevitability. Only that which seeks toconspire against destiny is conspiracy, which is somekind of desperate, dangerous and yet futile attempt tostay the clock of history. And, in a very real sense, thereis truth in this opinion. If there be any pattern, purpose ordirection in history, all counter-movements will, historically, be regarded as conspiracies against thatnature or destiny. On the other hand, only those whofully believe in a transcendental predestination can avoidconspiracy, for they alone can rest in the confidence thatit will be God's work. 4But it is his warning to "destiny" thinkers which is crucial. Withoutthis, men face great temptation:But to represent destiny in any sense does not mean torepresent either perfect virtue or infallibility. The Biblepoints clearly to the wretched nature of the chosen peopleof the Old Covenant, and the heresies and sins of theelect people of the New Covenant. The variouscommanding empires of history, from Rome to theUnited States today, have not been preserved fromgrievous sins at their highest points. No party, religiousgroup, or race, however confident of its cause anddestiny, can afford the luxury of assuming that therighteousness of a cause a man affirms is identical withhis own nature. The answer, on the other hand, is notmutual tolerance, for unity and brotherhood movementsare either desertions of one's position for the religion ofhumanity, or else they are hypocrisy. The answer is notto be one, but to be under law rather than to claim to belaw incarnate. CONCLUSIONone's real enemies as dangerous and evil, but it is also thecourse of wisdom to see oneself as a sinner, differentonly to the extent that God's grace is operative in us. 5In contrast to those who hide in darkness because their deeds are evil(John 3:19), let us follow the commission Jesus gave to His disciplesconcerning open covenants openly arrived at: "Ye are the light of theworld. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men lighta candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it givethlight unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which isin heaven" (Matthew 5:14-16).What should our strategy be? At the very least, we ought to adopt thisas our political minimum, our non-negotiable demand: "My hand outof your wallet; your hand out of my wallet; no handouts from thegovernment; and handcuffs for the thieves."Offensive WeaponsYou can't beat something with nothing. The only thing that can defeata bad idea is a good idea. We have the best ideas. We have the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and an understanding of freedom. Freedomworks. It produces abundance. Socialism produces poverty. It existsonly because Western capitalists and governments have subsidized itwith taxpayers' money. The Marxists have had to construct barbedwire defenses against people who would otherwise try to escape fromsocialist paradise. What we need to understand is that the conflict is not merely a matterof logic. It is a matter of faith. The enemy within our gates areincreasingly proponents of occultism. There is an alliance betweensecular humanism and outright occultism. This alliance goes back tothe beginning of time. In the West, it goes back to the Renaissance, something admitted <strong>by</strong> professional historians only since about 1964.This is why Christians are uniquely equipped to fight this battle. Theyknow that the weapons are spiritual. We need to put on the armor ofGod (Ephesians 6).It must begin with knowledge. This is why I have written a full-lengthstudy of the forces arrayed against us: Unholy Spirits: Occultism andhttp://freebooks.commentary.net/freebooks/docs/html/gnco/html/conclusion.htm (5 of 7) [5/26/2000 1:48:26 PM]
