Team representatives for 15 Maths classes competed. It wasone of our most exciting competitions, as it came down to a tie for first place between Maths Class Jand Aspire Maths Class A. There was also a tie for second place between Maths Class E and Aspire MathsClass C. The winning team, Maths Class J, was eventually named after five tie breakers.The team representatives receiving trophies are J.Huang and J.Fong.Team members will be consulted about training for a team for the Regional QAMT-ED Q MathsCompetition, which we have won 15 times since 1984, and if successful they’re on to the SE Grand Finalwhich we have won four times in recent years.Humanities Department NewsMs Lynette HeilBROnn, TeaCHerCongratulations to T.Hayward, R.Jones, G.Anderson, I.Thurecht and N.Brown who were selected torepresent <strong>Brisbane</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> at the Waterways Alive Student Leadership Training on Friday,June 3 as part of World Environment Day celebrations.These students will engage in a range of catchment and environment-based learning activities led bywaterway, natural environment and city design/planning experts.CompetitionsThe United Nations Youth Association Queensland Round of the Evatt Trophy Competition is beingheld again this year. The competition involves students participating in a Mock Security Council as arepresentative of a specific country. It provides a unique opportunity to learn about the world fromfellow students and to develop views and debating skills in an interactive and ‘real life’ context. On the way to White Water World, the buses were filledwith lots of talking and wondering about what the day was going to be like, after all it is not every daythat you go to a theme park to learn about physics.Unsure of the relationship between water rides and energy transfer, it did not take us long once we hadarrived to work out the relationship.
