The most popular ride as voted by the students was the GreenRoom.The trip home on the bus was filled with discussion of the formulas and science concepts featured inour excursion booklet, with calculators being passed from seat to seat to check answers.Our trip had been a success, we had experienced Science in action and it was fun.Visual Arts Department NewsA.Hundal, StudentCreate 2011Friday June 17 marks the date of our annual <strong>State</strong> <strong>High</strong> ‘CREATE’ art exhibition. It promises to be avisual feast again this year, with exceptional Visual Art and Film and Television works on display fromall year levels. Expect the Art Factory studios to be bursting with paintings, drawings, sculptures, prints,animations and films, and the gardens to come alive with outdoor sculptures, an outdoor cinema, asenior wearable art show and roving performers. It is a night on the <strong>State</strong> <strong>High</strong> calendar not to bemissed!!! Hot food and coffee to keep you warm will be on sale throughout the night. Come along andsee what <strong>State</strong> <strong>High</strong> Visual Arts have to offer!Storytellers of the Floods Film ProjectEleven lucky senior Film, Television and New Media students had the opportunity to participate in theplanning, filming and editing of a group film for The Storytellers of the Floods project last term. <strong>Brisbane</strong><strong>State</strong> <strong>High</strong>, along with Milperra <strong>State</strong> <strong>School</strong>, were the only two schools in <strong>Brisbane</strong> involved in theproject, which was funded by the Australian Film, Television and Radio <strong>School</strong> (AFTRS) in Sydney, and itaimed to tell the students’ stories about the floods in <strong>Brisbane</strong> earlier this year. A screening of the filmswas held on Thursday night, April 28, in the Performing Arts Centre at <strong>State</strong> <strong>High</strong>. Congratulations tothe students for their films, and a big thank you to AFTRS Film tutor, Maria Barbagallo, for all of her timeand effort working with our students.Indigenous Awareness Art CampThe Art Sub-Committee is organising an Indigenous Awareness Art Camp to be held at North StradbrokeIsland on August 5 to 7. The camp is open to both indigenous and non-indigenous students, and aimsto promote an awareness and appreciation of Indigenous culture and art in the area, and to workcollaboratively, experimenting with new sites and new audiences through both digital and traditionalmethods of art making. Visual Arts Head of Department Jessica Wall, <strong>School</strong> Chaplain, Andrew Foley,and Teacher Aide, Nancy Alick, will be attending the camp. Interested students should see Miss Wall inthe Art block for further information.Art Sub CommitteeIf your student studies Visual Art and you are looking for a way to become further involved in the lifeof the school, the Art department has an Art Sub-Committee, a group of parents who meet regularlyto discuss the running of the Art Factory Gallery, and Visual Art extra curricula programs offered tostudents of <strong>State</strong> <strong>High</strong>. Meetings are generally held once a month and I would like to invite otherinterested parents to join in 2011.
