the rate of production of the girderswas increased and the cycle timeof a normal pre-tensioned girderwas reduced to two and a half daysinstead of a nine day casting cycle.This ensured rapid progress ofprecast girder production.WATER TANKSTEAM CURINGSTARTDIESEL TANKERCentral Precast YardThe Central Precast Yard, situated20 km from the city, was a greatasset and served a multipurposerole. Not only was it used for castingstructures, but the procurement,inventory and plant & equipmentteams, operated out of there.Fabrication work for the project wasalso done at the central precastyard as well as storage of surplusstaging and shuttering material.The labour camp, housing over 200workmen, within the precast yard,sprawled across 1,600 sqm. Theworkers’ camp was well maintainedand inspections were undertakenregularly to ensure that a clean andhealthy environment was provided tothe workers.Adopting Best PracticesBuilding infrastructure in the busiestpart of a city is never easy. <strong>Punj</strong> <strong>Lloyd</strong>was conscious of this fact, adoptingbest practices of HSEQ – health,safety, environment and quality,throughout project execution.SAFETYFastening the safety beltSafety of workmen is extremelyimportant to us at all our constructionsites. However greater vigilance isWATER SOFTENER (FOR SOFTENINGOF HARD WATER FROM BORE WELL)required in sites like that of the Metrobecause it involves the safety of thepublic, due to its location.All workers were mandated towear Personal Protective Equipment(PPE). Workmen operating at heightswere given special and repeatedtraining. Weekly Tool Box meetingswere held.
