UPS operationsInitiating a self-testA self-test can be performed with equipment connected to the UPS output receptacles. To initiate a self-test,press and hold the Mute/Test button until the alarm beeps two times.CAUTION: Do not unplug the UPS to test the batteries. This action removes safe electricalgrounding and can introduce a damaging surge into the network connections.The self-test lasts approximately 10 seconds as the UPS switches to battery power to test the load capacityand battery charge. When distortion occurs, theUPS provides sine wave power from the battery reserves for as long as the distortion is present. In areaswith poor utility power or where the UPS input power comes from a backup generator, continuouswaveform distortion causes the UPS to switch to battery power. To minimize battery use, experiment withUPS operations 30
different settings for this dial. As the dial is turned clockwise, the UPS becomes more tolerant of variationsin the input power's AC waveform.NOTE: While testing, operate connected equipment in a safe test mode so the effects do notdisrupt critical operations.For the location of rear panel components, see "UPS R/T2200 NA/JPN/TWN rear panel (on page 8)"or "UPS R/T2200 INTL rear panel (on page 9)."Powering down the UPS1.
