APPENDIX A II1II PRINTING OVERVIEWAt............................................................................................To minimize the amount of memory required by a TrueType font, take advantageof the configuration feature provided by Pointless that allows you to specifywhich characters Pointless will generate when creating a font. Many of theavailable characters within a font character set are never used in yourdocuments, so there is no need to waste valuable memory with thesecharacters...........................................................................................Maximum Printable Point SizeThe maximum character point size allowed on the GS is 255 points. With this in mind, itis important to understand that when printing in the highest quality mode available toyour printer, the maximum printable point size for your printer will be less than 255points.For instance, the maximum printable point size for the ImageWriter II at Best quality is127, since the print driver uses fonts that are 2 times the size of the fonts you are usingin the document (127 times 2is 254, so 127 is the maximum print size because of the255 point limitation). Likewise, the maximum printable size at the highest print qualityfor the ImageWriter LQ and 24-pin dot-matrix printers is 85 (85 x3 = 255). And themaximum size at the highest print quality for the HP Desk]etiWriter, Laser]et, andsimilar printers is 63 (63 x4 = 252).At..An indication that you have used a font that exceeds the maximum point sizeallowable will be the printing of tiny characters in place of the larger charactersthat you expected............................ .................................... ...........................
APPENDIX A l1li PRINTING OVERVIEWPrinting DelaysThe printing process may be delayed momentarily when you begin printing becausePointless must generate the fonts requested by the print driver before printing canbegin. You will see the Pointless cursor being displayed as the necessary fonts are beinggenerated.The length of this delay willbe relative to the number of fonts that must be created.However, once the required fonts are generated, there will be no further delays.47
