<strong>Policy</strong> Number:2010-07 Passed:Title:<strong>UBC</strong> Land Use (omnibus)September 15, 2010Expires:September 15, 2013Summary:Approves an omnibus <strong>UBC</strong> land use policy with respect to the <strong>UBC</strong> Farm, Gage South, University Boulevardand housing affordability.Be it resolved that Council approve the <strong>AMS</strong> Land Use Policies as presented [see note below]:<strong>UBC</strong> Farm<strong>AMS</strong> Supported Principles – <strong>UBC</strong> Farm1. Preservation as an educational and community focussed asset <strong>of</strong> the University;2. Development as a space dedicated to world-leading sustainability practices;3. Preservation as a living farm that supports the academic mission <strong>of</strong> the University.<strong>AMS</strong> Suggested Specific Criteria – <strong>UBC</strong> Farm1. Recognition <strong>of</strong> the unique nature <strong>of</strong> the <strong>UBC</strong> Farm;2. Recognition <strong>of</strong> the full 24 hectares located on the existing farm footprint;3. Meaningful limitations on development in the surrounding wildlife corridors.Gage South<strong>AMS</strong> Supported Principles – Gage South1. Preservation <strong>of</strong> the area between Thunderbird Boulevard, Wesbrook Mall, and Marine Drive for thepurpose <strong>of</strong> achieving the University’s academic mission;2. Recognition <strong>of</strong> Gage South as a deeply student focussed space, given its physical proximity to GageResidences, recreation facilities and student activities on MacInnes Field;3. Recognition that zoning must be congruent with the needs <strong>of</strong> student life and the potential on-goingneeds for a transit terminal in this location.<strong>AMS</strong> Suggested Specific Criteria – Gage South1. Proactive rezoning <strong>of</strong> the undeveloped Gage South area as Academic, in line with the vision <strong>of</strong> the<strong>UBC</strong> Vancouver Campus Plan.University Boulevard<strong>AMS</strong> Supported Principles – University Boulevard1. Recognition <strong>of</strong> University Boulevard as a space deeply tied to the success <strong>of</strong> the academic mission <strong>of</strong><strong>UBC</strong>, particularly in terms <strong>of</strong> providing an enriching campus life for students;2. Allowance for the vision <strong>of</strong> an attractive core and gateway to the University with the new StudentUnion Building at its heart to be realised.<strong>AMS</strong> Suggested Specific Criteria – University Boulevard1.
