In either case, applying a higher bolt preload thanneeded <strong>for</strong> stability will only enhance stiffness <strong>and</strong> stability, so the maximum preload within the stresslimit <strong>of</strong> the desired fastener <strong>and</strong> the Hertz stress allowance <strong>for</strong> the contacts can be used.
