other school events throughout the year. It is clear that PARENT INVOLVEMENT IS A KEY
TO STUDENT SUCCESS.
Support our school=s discipline policies and bus safety rules. Children thrive upon consistency
and a Aunified front@ from home and school in order for discipline to be most effective. Even if
we adults must discuss the issues and come to consensus, it=s best to do this without involving
the child at that point in the process.
Don=t hesitate to let us know if you can chaperone or volunteer as a media center assistant,
tutor, resource person or PTO committee member.
Use the web site or e-mail to stay tuned to what=s happening at school.
An effective vehicle to monitor and assist your child with homework and assignments is the
AGENDA BOOK. Review it nightly or as necessary to encourage your student=s responsibility
and follow-through.
If a problem arises, try to resolve it by following a chain of responsibility. Remember that your
child=s perception is just one piece of the larger picture. It=s best to first address your concern
with the classroom teacher and/or the school counselor, where applicable. If the concern is
ongoing or unresolved, contact the school administration.
GENESIS PARENT PORTAL
Our goal is to provide ongoing communication with our parents. In light of this, we continue to
encourage Riverfront parents to sign up for online access to the Genesis Parent Portal. This
valuable tool provides parents with access to your child=s schedule, attendance, grades,
assignments and conduct records. In addition, parents are registered to receive e-mail
notifications from school. If you have not already registered for access to Genesis or if there are
changes to the information that is currently on file, please fill out the form at the back of this
handbook and return it to your child=s homeroom teacher as soon as possible.
ATTENDANCE
New Jersey State Statute maintains that every parent, guardian or other person having custody
and control of a child between six and sixteen years shall cause such child regularly to attend
the public schools of the district.
ABSENCES
If a student will be absent or late to school, we ask that the parent or guardian report the
absence or lateness by calling 499-4647 by 8:00 AM on the day of the absence and follow the
voice mail prompt for ATTENDANCE.
Following an absence, a parental note or medical excuse should be submitted either to the
student=s first period teacher or directly to the Main Office. AExcused@ absences include the
following:
