Savings by use ofelectronic BallastsFully electronic ballasts have a high energy saving potential in comparisonto conventional ballasts. This is due to the following factors:• up to 25% lower system load• up to 50% longer lamp life due to high frequency operation• reduced maintenance costs due to longer periods betweenreplacements• reduced airconditioning costs due to savings in power loss• reduced connection charges due to the smaller system loading forthe same light outputMB LLMB EB EB+ EB++-7% -25% -50% -60%Further AdvantagesThe fully electronic construction of HÜCO ballasts offers a series of significantperformance advantages with regard to lighting quality, lightingcomfort and safety of operation:• no flickering and no noise when the light is switched on and inoperation• operating with direct current voltage is permitted; i.e. may be fittedto safety and emergency lighting in accordance with VDE 0108• no stroboscopic effects with rotating machines• reduced luminous flux loss during the complete life span of thelamp due to high frequency operation• reduced self-heating due to minimal losses• automatically restarts once the lamp has been changed• conventional ballasts can emit noise around the audible thres-hold,HÜCO ballasts almost run noiselessInterference SuppressionHÜCO ballasts meet EMC guide-lines.WeightDepending on the rating HÜCO ballasts weigh between ca. 40 and ca.400 gms. This, along with their compact design, makes them extremelysuitable for fitting into suspended ceilings, or cramped and restrictedspaces.Energy balance by the example 1x58W T8Magnetic ballast:Lamp power 58W, Ballast losses 13W, Total circuit power 71WLow loss magnetic ballast:Lamp power 58W, Ballast losses 8W, Total circuit power 70WHÜCO electronic ballast:Lamp power 50W, (with same light output), Ballast losses 4W, Totalcircuit power 56WHÜCO electronic ballast + daylight sensor:Total circuit power 35W (average)HÜCO EVG + daylight sensor + PIR sensor:Total circuit power 28W (average)D.C. Voltage OperationHÜCO ballasts are suitable for DC operation. The voltage range in whichignition can be guaranteed depends on the configuration of the ballast.Further information can be found on the product description pages. Maybe used for emergency lighting applications in accordance with VDE0108. Extra costs for emergency needs are not incurred. The battery load is significantly smaller when a HÜCO ballast is used incontrast to conventional emergency lighting systems. This means eithera longer emergency lighting time or a smaller battery design. Pleasenotice that HÜCO ballasts got a programmed start. After mains interruptionthe restart time will be 1,5s in any case. The ballast are not suitablefor emergency application with restart in less then 1,5s.Lamp Life SpanDue to the stable operation at High Frequency Voltage, the lamp loadis lower. This results in a longer lifespan of the lamp by up to 50% andthereby a reduction in purchase, replacement and maintenance costs.Constant Power OutputHÜCO electronic ballasts with an active harmonic wave filter (ActivePFC) ensure a constant power output in the range of 198V to 254V andguarantee a regular lighting level irrespective of voltage fluctuations. Asa result there is a constant power supply to the lamp, thus contributingto the increased life of the lamp. (ill. EVG 1)Voltage SupplyHÜCO electronic ballasts are suitable for all European mains voltagesfrom 220V - 240V.Light Output / Lamp PowerThe High Frequency operation achieves the stated light output at a 10%lower lamp power. (ill. EVG 2)Luminous Flux DropA lower luminous flux drop is achieved throughout the entire life ofthe lamp due to High Frequency operation in contrast to conventionaloperating systems.High Frequency OperationAs lamps react very quickly when 50 Hz current is being used, there isthe usual flickering due to the fact that each time the voltage is zero onthe sine-wave, the lamp has to be restarted. When HÜCO ballasts are used the flickering of the lamp will be reducedby more than 90%. Flickering and stroboscopic effects are barely noticeable.Start ProcessWarm start : These ballasts have a warm start which ensures the ignition of thelamps is preceded by optimal preheating of the electrodes. This type ofballast is for areas where the light has to be frequently switched on andoff or where this option is desirable (more than 5 cycles per day)Power LossThere is approximately 75% less power loss with HÜCO ballasts in comparisonto conventional ballasts.94 Subject to technical modification
