Pulse or4/20mAoutputfromflowmeterBA658CPower supply24VBA658CFlow batchcontrollerGeneral purposeFlow batch controllersFlowmeterValve 1Valve 2The BA658C is a second-generation,general-purpose flow batch controller thatsupersedes the successful BA550P andBA550C. This controller is ideal foraccurately dispensing liquids, solids orcomponents and despite its sophisticatedcontrol functions, it remains very easy to useand configure. The backlit display is readable in all lightingconditions. The user screen may be selectedso that the operator is only presented withessential process information. Variables thatmay be displayed include dispensed quantity, batch setpoint, rate of dispensing andcontroller status. Most of the standard displayscreens also include a bargraph showingbatch progress. A record of the total productdispensed is maintained as a grand total, together with a history of the last ten batches.Up to nine setpoints may be pre-entered forselection by the operator when required. To simplify selection, each setpoint may beidentified by a plain language name havingup to sixteen alphanumeric characters. Thecontroller can also be configured so that theoperator can adjust an existing setpoint orenter a new value.Single or two-stage control can beperformed by the BA658C with a third outputavailable to control an additional valve orpump, or even to provide three-stage control. To ensure maximum accuracy, overruncompensation may be selected to automaticallyminimise batching errors caused byactuator delaysPulse and analogue 4/20mA signals areaccepted by the batch controller. All inputsare galvanically isolated from the controllerpower supply and outputs so that earthedsignals may be connected. Pulse inputs maybe from switch contacts, a 2-wire proximitydetector or a wide range of voltage sources. An easily adjustable sixteen point straight linelineariser will accurately correct almost anyflowmeter non-linearity. The BA658C alsoincorporates a root-extractor so 4/20mAanalogue inputs may be linear, or have asquare law relationship with the rate of flow.Separate total and rate scaling factorsenable the dispensed quantity and the rate ofFlowdispensing to be displayed in the same or indifferent engineering units. The three relay contact outputs may beindividually configured as control or statusoutputs. If more are required, a factory fittedoption provides three additional galvanicallyisolated solid state outputs.Front panel push buttons allow the operatorto start and stop the batch and to resetthe controller at the end of each cycle. Forapplications where large or remote pushbuttons are required, control may be transferredto external switches with or withoutinhibiting the front panel controls.Counting may be inhibited during a batchby closing an external contact. Thus productmay be re-cycled whilst being heated, or thebatching system may be purged withoutaffecting the quantity dispensed.Selectable automatic restart causes theBA658C batch controller to execute thebatching operation a pre-set number of times. The delay between batches may be setbetween 1 second and 24 hours, thusenabling the controller to perform regulardosing and sampling operations.Controller configuration is performed viathe front panel push buttons or optionalexternal switches. Carefully designed configurationmenus lead the installer intuitivelythrough the available functions. Configurationmenus and user screens may be displayed inEnglish, French or German.A security link and an optional userdefinable four digit security code preventaccidental or unauthorised access to theconfiguration menus. For field mounting applications theBA654D provides the same batching facilitiesas the BA658C but is housed in a robust IP66GRP enclosure suitable for externalmounting. A complementary range of fieldand panel mounting intrinsically safe modelsis also available for use in potentiallyflammable atmospheres.◆ Easy to use◆ High contrast displaywith backlight◆ Pulse or 4/20mAcurrent source input◆ 3 or 6 outputs◆ 9 selectable batchsetpoints◆ IP66 front panel◆ 3 year guaranteeBEKA associates Ltd.
