Hazardous areaBA458CSafe areaBA458CFlow batchcontrollerPower supply24VIntrinsically safe for usein all gas hazardous areasPulse or4/20mAoutputfromflowmeterGalvanic isolatorsor Zener barriersu Easy to useFlowFlowmeterValve 1Valve 2u Intrinsically safeATEX, FM & cFMcertification. The BA458C is an intrinsically safe secondgenerationflow batch controller thatsupersedes the successful BA350BP andBA350BC. This controller is ideal foraccurately dispensing liquids, solids orcomponents in a hazardous area and despiteits sophisticated control functions, it is veryeasy to configure and use. Carefully designeddisplay screens, annotated in English, French,or German, lead the user intuitively throughthe available options. The BA458C accepts apulse or 4/20mA analogue input andincorporates a square root extractor andsixteen point lineariser allowing use withalmost any flowmeter or sensor. Separatetotal and rate scaling factors enable thedispensed quantity and the rate of dispensingto be displayed in the same or in differentengineering units.Single or two-stage control can beperformed by the BA458C with a third outputavailable to control an additional valve orpump. To ensure maximum accuracy, overruncompensation may be selected toautomatically minimise batching errorscaused by actuator delays. The backlit display is readable in all lightingconditions. The user screen may be selectedso that the operator is only presented withessential process information. Variables thatmay be displayed include dispensed quantity, batch setpoint, rate of dispensing andcontroller status. Most of the standard displayscreens also include a bargraph showingbatch progress. A record of total productdispensed is maintained as a grand totaltogether with a history of the last ten batches.Up to nine setpoints may be pre-enteredand selected by the operator when required. To simplify selection, each setpoint may beidentified by a plain language name having upto sixteen alphanumeric characters. The three isolated outputs are individuallyconfigured as control or status outputs. If moreare required, a factory fitted option providesthree additional identical isolated outputs.Front panel push buttons allow the operatorto start and stop the batch and to reset thecontroller at the end of each cycle. Forapplications where large or remote pushbuttons are required, control may betransferred to external switches with or withoutinhibiting the front panel controls.Counting may be inhibited during a batchby closing an external contact. Thus productmay be re-cycled whilst being heated, or thebatching system may be purged withoutaffecting the quantity dispensed.Selectable automatic restart causes theBA458C batch controller to execute thebatching operation a pre-set number of times. The delay between batches may be setbetween 1 second and 24 hours, thus enablingthe controller to perform regular dosing andsampling operations.ATEX certification permits the BA458C to beinstalled in all hazardous gas areas. Themagnetic pick-off, voltage pulse and 4/20mAinputs comply with the requirements for simpleapparatus, allowing direct connection to mostcertified flowmeters. Switch contacts and awide range of certified proximity detectorsmay also be directly connected to the BA458C.All three control outputs are galvanicallyisolated and certified as separate intrinsicallysafe circuits with output parameters complyingwith the requirements for simple apparatus. This allows most certified hazardous arealoads such as valves, lamps, and sounders tobe controlled, or the output may be transferredto the safe area via a wide range of Zenerbarriers or galvanic isolators. For use in the USA and Canada the BA458Chas FM and cFM intrinsic safety andnonincendive approval.Controller configuration may be performedvia the front panel push buttons or optionalexternal switches. To prevent accidental orunauthorised adjustment, access to theconfiguration menus is restricted by anexternal security link and an optional userdefinable four digit security code. For field mounting applications the BA454Dprovides the same batching facilities but ishoused in a robust IP66 GRP enclosuresuitable for external mounting. Acomplementary range of non-certified modelsfor use in safe areas is also available.u High contrast displaywith backlight.u Pulse or 4/20mAcurrent source input.u 3 or 6 outputsu 9 selectable batchsetpoints.u IP66 front panelu 3 year guaranteewww.beka.co.uk/ba458cBEKA associates Ltd.
