Easy to use menus allow theinstrument to be configured as a counter,<strong>timer</strong>, <strong>tachometer</strong> or as a <strong>clock</strong>. Both of theinputs will operate from 2-wire proximitydetectors, switch contacts, magnetic pick-offs,open collectors or voltage pulses. Optionalalarm/control outputs further extend the manyapplications.Counting may be from one or both inputs.The pulses at each input can be added to, orsubtracted from each other, and the result maybe scaled to provide a display in engineeringunits. Alternatively, pulses on one input canincrement or decrement the total countdepending upon the state of the other input.From two inputs electrically 90° out of phase(quadrature), the <strong>BA364D</strong> can display thedirection of movement and position of a shaftor a cable. The total display may be reset tozero via the instrument controls or by a remotecontact closure.As a <strong>timer</strong> the <strong>BA364D</strong> may be started andstopped by one or both inputs or from theinstrument push-buttons. Elapsed or remainingtime may be displayed in hours, minutes andseconds, or in just hours and minutes. Whenfitted with optional control outputs theinstrument can control any process which isrequired to operate for a fixed time.Rotational speed may be measured using the<strong>tachometer</strong> function which will displayrevolutions per second, minute or per hour.The instrument contains a run-time counterwhich can show the total operating time of themonitored machinery on the second display.When fitted with optional alarms, over andunder speed warnings can be generated.Configuration as a digital <strong>clock</strong> enablestime to be displayed in twelve or twenty fourhour format within a hazardous area. Theinstrument may operate as a stand-alone<strong>clock</strong>, or may be synchronised via the resetterminals with an external reference. Twooptional control outputs enable hazardous orsafe area loads to be turned on and off atpre-set times twice in each twelve or twentyfour hour period.Control and programming of the <strong>BA364D</strong> isperformed via four push-buttons which areprotected from damage and tampering behinda sealed cover. For applications requiringfrequent adjustment, the instrument can besupplied with a robust external membranekeypad. All the programme functions arecontained in easy to understand menus whichmay be protected by a user definable securitycode. To simplify calibration the scaling factorsemploy floating decimal points.Intrinsic safety certification allowsinstallation in most hazardous areas, separateversions are available with ATEX gas andATEX gas plus dust certification allowinginstallation throughout Europe. For applicationsin the USA, a new version having FM intrinsicsafety and nonincendive approvals hasrecently been introduced.The enclosure, which is moulded in glassreinforced polyester (GRP), has stainless steelfittings, silicone gaskets and an armouredglass window. Its robust construction providesIP66 protection. A separate terminalcompartment allows the <strong>BA364D</strong> to be installedand terminated without exposing the displayelectronics. To further simplify field wiring andsubsequent inspection, the terminal cableentries and clamping screws are forwardfacing.Backlighting is available as an option toimprove readability when the <strong>BA364D</strong> isinstalled in a poorly illuminated area. Highefficiency amber LEDs provide an even glow toenhance display contrast.Optional alarm/control outputs provide twogalvanically isolated solid state outputs each ofwhich is a separate intrinsically safe circuit andcomplies with the requirements for simpleapparatus.
