It isa second generation instrument that ismechanically and electrically compatiblewith the earlier BA405C, but has moredisplay digits plus additional functions.Main application of the <strong>BA427E</strong> is theadjustment of a 4/<strong>20mA</strong> plant parameterfrom within a hazardous area. For example,used as the remote <strong>set</strong> <strong>point</strong> generator for aspeed controller the <strong>BA427E</strong> enables speedadjustments from within the hazardousprocess area. The <strong>BA427E</strong> may also beused to position an actuator or valve with a4/<strong>20mA</strong> input. The <strong>BA427E</strong> incorporates afive digit display plus a bargraph that maybe calibrated to show the engineering unitsrepresented by the 4/<strong>20mA</strong> current, allowingan operator to easily <strong>set</strong> the processvariable to the required value.International intrinsic safety certificationpermits the <strong>BA427E</strong> to be installed throughoutthe world. All input safety parameters are thesame or greater than those for the precedingBA405C, thus allowing the <strong>BA427E</strong> to safelyreplace the earlier model.Five pre-<strong>set</strong> output values may be rapidlyselected using the instrument’s front panelpush buttons for applications where thesame output values are repeatedly required.To minimise plant disturbance when theoutput is adjusted or switched betweenpre-<strong>set</strong>s, the maximum rate of output currentchange may be defined. The 4/<strong>20mA</strong> outputrange may also be restricted so thatoperators can only adjust the plant variablewithin safe limits.The bold 11mm high liquid crystal displayprovides maximum contrast and has a verywide viewing angle, allowing the <strong>BA427E</strong><strong>set</strong> <strong>point</strong> <strong>station</strong> display to be read easily inmost lighting conditions over a widetemperature range. The five digits, with fourdecimal <strong>point</strong>s and a negative sign, may beconfigured to display any variablerepresented by the 4/<strong>20mA</strong> output currentbetween -99999 and 99999.Engineering units represented by the4/<strong>20mA</strong> output current are shown on thescale card viewed through a window on theright hand side of the display. If the units arespecified when the <strong>BA427E</strong> is ordered aprinted scale card will be fitted. If units are notspecified, a blank card will be supplied whichcan easily be marked and installed on-sitewithout dismantling the <strong>set</strong> <strong>point</strong> <strong>station</strong>enclosure or removing it from the panel.Display backlighting which may be loop orseparately powered is available as a factoryfitted option. It provides green backgroundillumination allowing the display to be readat night or in poorly illuminated areas. Whenpowered from the 4/<strong>20mA</strong> loop no additionalintrinsically safe interface or wiring isrequired. Powering from a separate supplyproduces a brighter backlight but requiresan additional intrinsically safe interface andfield wiring. Two backlights may beseparately powered from one intrinsicallysafe interface.IP66 front panel protection and a neoprenegasket to seal the joint between the <strong>set</strong> <strong>point</strong><strong>station</strong> and the panel make the instrumentsuitable for use in areas that will be cleanedwith a hose. To simplify installation andmaintenance, the <strong>set</strong> <strong>point</strong> <strong>station</strong> has aremovable terminal block allowing panel wiringto be completed before the <strong>BA427E</strong> isinstalled.A BA490 panel mounting external rotaryencoder may be directly connected to the<strong>BA427E</strong> <strong>set</strong> <strong>point</strong> <strong>station</strong> to provide analoguecontrol of the output current.
