BA508E2-wire 4/20mA4 digit indicatorGeneral purposeu Loop powered only1.2V drop.2-wireTx4/20mA4/20mAcircuitu 4 digit 34mm highdisplay.The BA508E loop powered 4/20mAindicator is a fourth generationinstrument that is electrically andmechanically compatible with the earlierBA508C, but has a much larger full 4 digitdisplay providing maximum visibility from a144 x 72mm instrument. The new modelhas guaranteed performance between -40& 70˚C, and an even shorter enclosuredepth than its predecessor. The scale cardcan easily be marked to show the units ofmeasurement and can be installed on-sitewithout dismantling the indicator enclosureor removing the indicator from the panel. Ifthe units of measurement are not specifiedwhen the indicator is ordered, a blankscale card will be fitted.The main application of the BA508E is todisplay a measured variable in meaningfulengineering units within a process area.The zero and span of the display areindependently adjustable allowing theindicator to be calibrated to display anylinear variable represented by the 4/20mAsignal. A root extractor and an adjustablesixteen segment lineariser enables theindicator to display flow and variables suchas tank level in linear engineering units.For weighing applications a tare function isincluded.The bold 34mm high 4 digit displayprovides maximum contrast and has avery wide viewing angle, allowing theBA508E indicator to be easily read in mostlighting conditions over a widetemperature range. An optional factoryfitted backlight is available for applicationsin poorly illuminated areas. The five digits,with four decimal points and a negativesign, may be configured to display anyvariable between -9999 and 9999.IP66 front panel protection and aneoprene gasket to seal the joint betweenthe indicator and the panel make theinstrument suitable for use in areas thatwill be cleaned with a hose. To simplifyinstallation and maintenance, the indicatorhas a removable terminal block allowingpanel wiring to be completed before theBA508E indicator is installed.A backlight which may be loop orseparately powered is available as afactory fitted option. It provides greenbackground illumination allowing thedisplay to be read at night or in poorlyilluminated areas. When powered from the4/20mA loop no additional field wiring isrequired. Powering from a separate supplyproduces a brighter backlight but requiresadditional field wirings.Optional dual alarm outputs which canswitch low power loads, such as sounders,beacons and solenoid valves, are availableas a factory fitted option. The twogalvanically isolated solid state outputsmay be independently conditioned as highor low alarms with normally open or closedoutputs. Annunciators on the display showthe status of both alarm outputs.Reliability is ensured by componentconformal coating, protection fromincorrect connection and radio frequencyinterference. The indicator has beensubjected to vibration testing and issupported by a three year guarantee.Other models in this range include theBA528E which has a similar specificationwith five 29mm high digits and a 31segment bargraph.If flammable atmospheres are presentthe BA308E should be used.
