ENDORSEMENT ACTIVITY0'1NRegistered professional nurses may obtain a license in another state through the process of endorsement. Each state has its ownendorsement application and process, which includes a verification of licensure from another Board of Nursing. In the endorsementprocess, a Board of Nursing from another state accepts the nursing credentials validated by the original state of licensure. Some statesalso require verification of licensure from each state the person ever held a license. The verification is an official document which validateslicensure, exam results (only provided by the original state of licensure), method of licensure (whether by exam or endorsement), and ifthere are any criminal convictions, disciplinary actions taken or complaints pending against the license.Registered professional nurses may hold a nursing license in several states at the same time. Nurses living close to state bordersand nurses traveling to various places are included in this group. From January 1, 1988 through June 30, 2008 a total of 18,485 registeredprofessional nurses endorsed into West Virginia and 23,653 have requested a verification for endorsement out to other states.
