SEMINOLE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, FLORIDAPosition/Job DescriptionCOORDINATOR, ELEMENTARY SECONDARY READINGQUALIFICATIONS• Master’s Degree with a major in Elementary Education or Reading and certification and/or endorsement inReading or a commitment to complete the certification or endorsement within one year.• At least five (5) years successful teaching experience, with at least three (3) years experience in teachingstudents to read.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES• Knowledge of all areas of Reading and Language Arts, in particular, scientifically-based researchedapproaches to reading instruction and related materials.• Knowledge of the requirements of and guidance pertaining to FCAT Reading, the A++ Accountability Plan,and the K-12 Comprehensive Research-Based Reading Plan.• Knowledge of district K-5 6-12 reading assessment plan.• Knowledge of professional development strategies and programs related to elementary secondary reading.• Knowledge of national and state laws, rules, policies, and procedures related to elementary secondaryreading achievement and student progression.• Knowledge of basic computer software and hardware, as related to assigned responsibilities.• Skill in problem solving.• Effective skills in oral and written communications.• Skill in organization and time management.• Ability to plan, organize and prioritize.• Ability to communicate and to work cooperatively with personnel and the public.• Ability to interpret policy and law.• Ability to provide leadership to assigned personnel.• Ability to build teams and function as part of a team.SUPERVISIONREPORTS TOSUPERVISESDirector of Curriculum ServicesAssigned Support StaffPOSITION GOALTo manage and monitor all aspects of Elementary Secondary Reading curriculum and instruction,including implementation, monitoring and revision of the elementary secondary component of the K-12Comprehensive Research-Based Reading Plan.Page 32
