Transient Voltage SuppressionDesigners must protect systems from transientover-voltages as a result of nearby lightning strikes.Placing transient suppression diodes within thesystem—preferably inside a connector instead of somead hoc location—is one of the most effective ways toprotect electronic systems from lightning strikes andother sources of electromagnetic pulse.Diodes work something like a pressure valve on a homewater heater—if the pressure within the chamber exceedsa certain value, the valve opens, allowing steam and liquidto escape.
