6 About MNTC Marlow Navigation Training Center Inc. (MNTC) was established in 1999. MNTC is an independent entity that works in close cooperation with Marlow Navigation Phils., Inc. It is certified according to ISO 9001:2008 Standard. In September 2008, the training center moved to its present building that is purpose built and equipped with state‐of‐the‐art facilities to cater for the needs of seafarers as well as featuring the latest innovations in the field of maritime training. The training fa‐ cilities include a Full Mission Bridge Simulator, 8 mini‐bridges, PC‐based Engine Simula‐ tor, Liquid Cargo Simulator, GMDSS Simulator, 4 Crane Simulators, Physics and Chemistry laboratory, Electrical and Electronics laboratory, Pneumatic and Hydraulic laboratory, Refrigeration laboratory, UNITOR Gas and Electric Welding shop, Lathe Machine shop, workstations for Computer‐Based Training (CBT), classrooms equipped with wide screen LCD monitors and a fully equipped kitchen and dining area. An air‐conditioned dormitory accommodates cadets and trainees from the provinces during their training. Simulator Complex The MNTC Simulator Complex was designed, built and installed in accordance with the requirements of STCW’95 and fully takes into account, the DNV requirements for Class A simulators. The system was jointly designed by Advanced Research International (ARI), headquartered in New Delhi, and Marlow Navigation Training Center—Manila in coordination with Marlow Navigation Co., Ltd. in Cyprus. ARI has supplied the simulator software and most hardware were sourced locally. Consoles have been custom made and powder coated to highest standards by a local specialist company. Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMBS) The simulator is a complete navigation training solution and encompasses all the individual units on which navigation‐related training needs to be performed. Training is done in an immersive atmosphere with full visual, instrument and aural clues available to the trainees. The Full Mission simulator incorporates all software, hardware and accessories required to simulate an accurate and realistic bridge environment. The Inte‐ grated Bridge Environment consists of all standard equipment designed realistically and arranged ergo‐ nomically to provide an actual bridge environment. All instruments used touch screen interfaces for increased realism and flexibility. Liquid Cargo Handling Simulators (LCHS) The LCHS is an advanced training solution for cargo officers at the Operational and Management levels. It is installed with four workstations which offer the option to operate as one individual vessel or as dif‐ ferent vessels as well as being able to take part in the team operation of one or two vessels. Training is done in an immersive atmosphere with full visual, instrument and aural clues available to the trainees. The system incorporates a number of innovative solutions which have appeared for the first time on the marine simulations horizon. The installation fulfills the training needs for a large number of tanker model types including crude oil, product, and chemical tankers, LPG carriers (for both fully refrigerated and fully pressurized), and LNG carriers. Mini Bridges In addition to the FMBS, there are 8 mini bridges which have the same capabilities and the same environment as that of FMBS. Full Mission Engine Room Simulator (FMERS) The Full Mission Engine Room Simulator (FMERS) is a cutting edge turn key solution suitable for training marine engineers at watch keeping, in both operational and management levels. It enables a realistic and accurate simulation of the engine room, which is comprised of a main engine control room, main switch board, and simulated machinery space including a mimic pipeline panel, and local operating stations. The FMERS simulates the MAN B&W 6S60MC 6 cylinder, 2 stroke, reversible, slow speed marine diesel main engine of firing order 1,5,3,4,2,6 which is directly coupled to a fixed pitch propeller and all the auxiliary systems that accom‐ pany such an installation in the engine room of a tanker. Crane Simulators ARI crane simulators provide a realistic reproduc‐ tion of the visual, behavioral and operational characteristics while making the operation of the simulator extremely simple and intuitive for trainees and instructors. The simulator provides a virtual non‐destructive training environment for accelerated, hands‐on training to both novice and experienced operators. Trainees can repetitively practice routine and specific tasks to imbibe safe and efficient work practices. 7
