January 15, 2009 – March 22, 2009 ANTHEM: Perspectives on Home and Native Land Cynthia Girard, Alisdair MacRae, FASTWÜRMS, Shirley Moorhouse, Dana Inkster, KC Adams, and Eric Robertson. Curated by Ryan Rice, Organized by Carleton University Art Gallery, Ottawa ANTHEM: Perspectives on Home and Native Land featured the work of artists from across Canada who identified varying forms of nationhood that serve or detract from the concept of a national accord. Artists from various backgrounds – Aboriginal, Métis, White (Anglophone and Francophone), and African- Canadian – consult their personal and communal selves to address forms of sovereignty that they express responsively as their anthem. April 2, 2009 – May 3, 2009 Janet Cardiff: Whispering Room Co-presented by the Open Ears Festival, Courtesy of the Art Gallery of Ontario As part of the 2009 Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound, KW|AG was pleased to host an installation by Janet Cardiff. Whispering Room was a multimedia installation featuring sixteen speakers, each playing dialogue by a female describing a particular event from various viewpoints. As listeners moved through the gallery space, the story they heard changed. Each segment gently pulled the listener in a different direction, shuffling them between the past and the future and implicating the psychology of different modes of communication. The hushed voices were interrupted by a brief film projection of a girl tap dancing in the forest. This seemingly random interruption was both mysterious and familiar, a fitting analogy for the haunting voice that moved throughout a forest of speakers in the Gallery space. 2009 Exhibitions 08
