REPORT
President’s Report
Site of exchange is a theme that reflects this
year’s activities and one that is fundamental to
the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery’s mission of
Connecting people and ideas through art.
In 2009, we engaged a diverse range of stakeholders
in the development of the Gallery’s 2010 – 2014
Strategic Plan. Forty Gallery staff, board members,
volunteers, artists, partners and supporters
participated in a 3-day planning workshop in the
spring and a further day in the fall of 2009. We are
very grateful for this group’s insight and commitment
to the planning process. Their inspired discussion
about the Gallery’s future truly revealed KW|AG to
be a site of exchange.
As part of our planning process, we also evaluated our
facilities in Centre In The Square in light of our current
and future program needs. Facility improvement
planning will involve significant exchange of ideas
about our site as we look at how we can serve the
community in the most dynamic and exciting ways
through our programs and collaboration with Centre
In The Square and in the Civic District in which we
are situated.
KW|AG benefits from the contributions of many
outstanding people and organizations. Skilled
expertise and innovative ideas characterize the work
of the Gallery’s staff led by Alf Bogusky and senior
staff members Crystal Mowry, Caroline Oliver, Shelly
Mitchell and Agnieszka Chalas. Dedicated volunteers
contribute to the Gallery’s Board of Directors,
committees and programs. KW|AG receives
generous support from the Cities of Kitchener and
Waterloo, the Canada Council, Ontario Arts Council,
The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation,
the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and the Canadian
Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program. Their
support, combined with the generosity of members,
donors, and corporate sponsors makes KW|AG’s
programming possible. We are very grateful for
the enthusiasm, confidence and resources invested
in KW|AG by so many entities. My sincere thanks,
to each of you, for your role in making KW|AG an
exciting site of exchange.
