Mrs. James Cochran is here with her<br />

son, E. A. Cochran, being treated by<br />

Dr. Ridgway. She has been suffering<br />

for nearly a year with a tumor <strong>of</strong> the<br />

brain, and it may finally require an<br />

operation to relieve her.<br />

Wesley Clark, one <strong>of</strong> the prosecuting<br />

witnesses in the indictment again<br />

Leslie Close, was arrested at the close<br />

<strong>of</strong> the trial and taken to the Jefferson<br />

<strong>County</strong> jail by C. R. Smith. He is<br />

charged with having robbed Clay<br />

Skaggs, a grocer at Eighth and<br />

Grayson <strong>of</strong> $60.00<br />

Circuit Court Cases -<br />

Commonwealth VS Leslie Close,<br />

killing a Negro about a year ago near<br />

West Point. After being out eleven<br />

minutes, the jury returned a verdict <strong>of</strong><br />

not guilty.<br />

James Tinnell, two indictments for<br />

carry a concealed deadly weapon.<br />

One case, not guilty, the other, fined<br />

$25.00 and ten days in jail.<br />

Otho Hazzard, assault and battery,<br />

fined $25.00<br />

Geo. Hatfield charged with felonious<br />

cutting <strong>of</strong> timber on land <strong>of</strong> another.<br />

Due to technicality concerning<br />

ownership <strong>of</strong> the land, case<br />

dismissed.<br />

Mary Jane Carpenter, One <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bullitt</strong><br />

<strong>County</strong>'s oldest citizens passes<br />

peacefully away March 25 at the ripe<br />

old age <strong>of</strong> eighty-five years, four<br />

months and fourteen days. Mrs.<br />

Carpenter was the Miss Mary Jane<br />

Crigler, married to John Michael<br />

Carpenter in June 1844?. Nine<br />

children, five survive. Madams Wm.<br />

Buckner, James Stansbury, James<br />

Lee, Elijah Boyd, and Mr. John<br />

Henry Carpenter. Had been in<br />

declining heath a number <strong>of</strong> years,<br />

bedfast only a few months. Funeral<br />

services by Rev. Ramsey, remains<br />

laid to rest at family burying ground<br />

at Wm. Buckman's.<br />
