David Y. Graham LecturerThe David Y. Graham Lecturer is a distinguished individual in the field of gastroenterology.The presenter is chosen by the President and is subject to approval by the Board of Trustees.This named lectureship was established in 2004 in recognition of the many contributionsto clinical gastroenterology by David Y. Graham, MD, MACG. The lectureship was madepossible through a donation by Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., and Meretek Diagnostics,Inc. Dr. Graham gave the inaugural presentation.<strong>2013</strong> LecturerEamonn M. M. Quigley, MD, FACGLeadership in Medicine <strong>2013</strong>: Do We Need a New Approach?Eamonn Quigley is Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology atthe Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He is also a PrincipalInvestigator at the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre at the NationalUniversity of Ireland, Cork, Ireland. He is a past President of boththe World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO-OMGE) and theAmerican College of Gastroenterology.His major research interests include motility, functionalgastrointestinal disease, neurogastroenterology, gastroesophagealreflux disease and probiotics in health and disease. He haspublished over 600 original papers, reviews, editorials and bookchapters, and has received numerous awards worldwide. Heserved as Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Gastroenterology from 1998-2003. Hehas been named an Honorary Professor by the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad dela Republica Oriental del Uruguay, awarded Doctor “Honoris Causa” by the University ofMedicine and Pharmacy, Iuliu Hateiganu Cluj-Napoca, Romania, elected as a DistinguishedDoctor to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, London, received the J. EdwardBerk Distinguished Lecturer award from the American College of Gastroenterology and hasbeen awarded both the Medical School Medal and the Distinguished Alumnus Award byUniversity College Cork.Dr. Quigley graduated in medicine (MB BCh BAO) from the National University of Ireland,Cork in 1976 and completed his residency in internal medicine at the Western Infirmaryand associated hospitals in Glasgow, Scotland. There followed a two-year researchfellowship, leading to an MD degree by thesis, at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, U.S.A. Heserved as Lecturer in the Department of Medicine (Gastroenterology) at the University ofManchester at Hope Hospital in Salford, England before joining the faculty of the section ofGastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha8
