2013 Master RecipientRoy K. H. Wong, MD, MACGDr. Wong is Adjunct Professor of Medicine and former Director,Division of Digestive Diseases, Uniformed Services University ofthe Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland. In addition, he was theChief of the Gastroenterology Service at the Walter Reed NationalMilitary Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland.Dr. Wong earned his medical degree at Mount Sinai School ofMedicine in New York City. He completed a residency in internalmedicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California,and a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Walter Reed ArmyMedical Center, Washington, DC. He is board-certified in internalmedicine and gastroenterology.He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the American College of Gastroenterology(ACG) and a former Chairman of the Board of Governors for the ACG. He served as Chairmanof the Credentials Committee, Public Relations Committee and Training Committee ofthe ACG. He instituted “GI Jeopardy” and the Second Year Fellows Course as Chair ofthe Training Committee. He has received numerous awards including William BeaumontClinical Research Award, “A” Prefix Designation: Professional Designator Award forClinical Excellence and Significant Contribution to Army, Order of Military, General ClaireB. Chennault Award for Outstanding Teacher, Meritorious Service Medal for Clinical andAcademic Excellence, AOA, William D. Carey Governors Award and Berk/Fise ClinicalAchievement Award from the American College of Gastroenterology, and the JamesLeonard and Mac Hircaszel Award for Excellence in Teaching (USUHS). Dr. Wong has beenawarded numerous research grants in gastroenterology.He has published more than 250 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts in journals such asGastroenterology, American Journal of Gastroenterology, Annals of Internal Medicine, andGastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is a member of the editorial board of Digestive Diseasesand Digestive Diseases and Sciences and is a reviewer for a numerous medical journals.31
