Opening after closing removes bright noise, but cannot reconstruct the parts that where damaged by closing. Median filtering is a self-dual operator, see Fig. 4.21. Therefore, it is better than open-close and close-open operators. But, the major drawback of the median filter is that it is not idempotent, in contrast to opening defined in complete inf-semilattice of AS images.
