Strategies and EventsThe following strategies, community events, and other actions are effective ways toconvey and en<strong>for</strong>ce you coalition’s messages:Submit press releases to local media outlets.Submit a letter to the editor or op-ed to voice the coalition’s vision or opinion.Write an article <strong>for</strong> your community newspaper or newsletter.Create a public service announcement (PSA) or radio interview that can air <strong>for</strong>30 to 60 seconds on a public access channel or be shown to a school.Host a meth education <strong>for</strong>um or roundtable discussion in a recognizable neighborhoodfacility and air it on a local cable station.Create a community meth awareness Web site or email discussion list.Encourage stakeholders to join together to plan and participate in events (e.g.,health fairs, essay and poster contests, and drug- and alcohol-free concerts) and toaddress groups and schools. (See sample presentation outlines in this section of thetoolkit.)Start a local youth “improv” troupe to per<strong>for</strong>m vignettes and to lead communitydiscussions about meth.Invite recovering meth addicts to tell their stories to audiences throughout thecommunity and neighboring communities.Invite local artists to create pieces that depict the tragedy of meth addiction andthe hope of recovery.Create meth awareness posters, brochures, flyers, and billboards. (See samplehandouts in this section of the toolkit.)Have community video discussion evenings <strong>for</strong> teens and adults.Be a news source—gather statistics on meth use in your community and preparefact sheets <strong>for</strong> news reporters.
