16In profileThe World’sFood and wine lovers celebrateall things food at the World’sLongest Lunch!Longest LunchHappy foodies enjoying good foodand company at the world’s longest lunch.Hosted by Manningham Council and sponsored by Box Hill Institute, 150 foodiesattended the sell out event on Friday 2 March.Held at the banks of the Yarra River in Warrandyte, and themed around “uncork thepast”, Head Chef and Box Hill Institute teacher Andrew Sankey, saw the opportunity tolink guests back to the past, more than one hundred years ago.The four course menu consisted of a classic style Pork Pie for Entrée, Confit of YarraValley Fresh Water Salmon as the Fish Course, Char Grilled Eye Fillet Medallions forthe Meat Course and Baked Spiced Apple for Dessert accompanied with délice of KingIsland Reserve Black Label Cloth Wrapped CheddarThe Institute would like to thank the following staff and students who made the day sucha success:• Andrew Sankey and the Year 11 VCAL students who cooked thedelicious meal with help from Nathan Veach, Jos Catherine and Steve Kenny• Cary Warren who led the service team of Certificate lV in Hospitality studentswith help from Rachel Medew and Mary Vowles• Amelia Eaton and Ritchie Hewett who led the Certificate lll in Events studentswho helped set up the theming and the table before service• Tracey Fearn who guided beauty students whilst they pampered the mind, bodyand soul of diners with shoulder, neck and hand massages all day“This high profile event provides Box Hill Institute students with a wonderful practicalopportunity to experience a real live event in the making and reinforces what they learnin their studies, enhances their resumes and builds their confidence” stated DebraTrail, Centre Manager Hospitality and Tourism Studies. “Working at the World’s LongestLunch is a great opportunity for the students, they need to be able to manage their timeappropriately to ensure all meals are served at the same time, just one error can put thewhole event out, and so there really is a lot of pressure on the students”.
