with camera operations and PC hookups and leading

Learn popular Japanese anime illustration

characters and scenes drawn in the styles of anime

Join us as we take a trip back to ancient Egypt.
Learn about the mummification process, the Sphinx,
the Nile, ancient gods, hieroglyphics and pyramids.
Exceptional Essays
Polish writing skills needed to excel in high school

concise, properly-formatted, and descriptive,

Experiment Extravaganza

Kick Start Math/Reading
Illinois certified teachers review and reinforce concepts
and materials from the previous year while building a
strong foundation for the next year. Grade-appropriate
lessons are based on the Illinois Learning Standards.
Lego Robotics
The world of robotics begins here. Sharpen your
technology skills as you work in teams to build small
robots and program simple functions using Lego
robotic kits and computers.
Main Course Cooking
Learn to make tasty and nutritious main course dishes
that will tempt your family’s taste buds. Vegetarian
options are included, as well as an emphasis on using
healthier ingredients in favorite recipes.
Math Puzzles
Fun card tricks, games, riddles, puzzles and
brainteasers get students excited about math.
Students develop arithmetic skills, understanding of
spatial relationships, logical reasoning and creative
problem-solving skills.
Natural Disasters
Investigate powerful forces that change the earth,

Newspaper Editor
Find out what it takes to produce a newspaper. Use
journalistic techniques and news editing skills as you
and your classmates publish a peer newspaper. This
is a great opportunity to practice writing skills.
Painter’s Studio
Learn to paint with acrylics and create your own
masterpiece on canvas. Experiment with different
brush strokes and colors as you explore the styles
and techniques of famous artists. Supplies included.
Public Speaking
Become a poised and confident speaker as you
practice writing and presenting several types of
speeches. Speech team basics and impromptu
speaking are also covered.
Reader’s Theater
Reader’s Theater gives students the opportunity to
be part of a play without having to memorize a role.
Students read from a script with the focus being
on bringing the character alive through expressive
voices and gestures.
Robotic Technology
Learn techniques for building robots with Lego
Mindstorm kits and computers. Sharpen technology
skill as you build small robots and program
functions. Previous robotics students will enjoy this
higher-level course.
Rocket Science
Discover what makes airplanes fly, how boats float
and why magnets stick on a refrigerator. This class
teaches young Einsteins the science behind how
things work as they enjoy a variety of fun science
projects and activities.
Science of Flight
From da Vinci’s first design of a flying machine
to modern rocketry, explore the physics of flight.
Demonstrate lift, drag and thrust as you design,
build and launch model airplanes, balloon rockets
and more.

Scratch Animation
Creativity is expressed through technology using
Scratch software by MIT. Mathematical and
computational ideas are stressed while children
use this multimedia tool to create interactive video
games, stories, music and artwork.
Speaking Confidently
Learn to express yourself confidently in public.
Supportive group exercises are aimed at helping put
more punch in your arguments, style and delivery.
Study Skills
Put organization into your learning by improving your
study habits. Develop skills in listening, following
directions and test taking. Topics include taking notes,
time management, test preparation and motivation.
Supervision—Parkview Elementary School and
Naperville Yellow Box
Supervision is available for students taking both
morning and afternoon enrichment classes. A program
aide will supervise students from 7-9 a.m., during lunch
(11:20 a.m.-12:30 p.m.), and 3-6 p.m. Students may
bring a sack lunch or purchase a lunch at Parkview.
The Naperville Yellow Box location does not have a
cafeteria, so students should bring a sack lunch.
Violent Earth
Investigate powerful forces that change the earth:
earthquakes, volcanoes, geysers, sinkholes and
mudslides. Conduct research integrating hands-on
construction projects, literature, computer software
and experiments.
Watercolor Wonders
Become a watercolor wizard. Mix colors and explore
different brush strokes. Experiment with wet-onwet
and wet-on-dry techniques as you use your
imagination to create a masterpiece.
Writing Effectively
Polish your skills as an author, poet and essayist.
Explore new ways to animate ideas with attentiongetting
devices and imaginative language skills while
learning the proper structure for school essays.
Write Stuff
Engaging activities including a review of popular
children’s books and poems will inspire young
writers to express their own creative ideas in
stories, letters and poems while practicing grammar,
sentence structure and paragraph skills.
