CE College Credit Class Descriptions Calculus and Analytic Geometry 2231 5 college credits Topics in this course include lines, circles, functions, limits, continuity, the derivative, and the rules for differentiation of algebraic, trigonomic and the transcendental functions. The course also covers related rates, mean value theorem, optimization of curve sketching, differentials, Newton’s method, antiderivatives and integration, and the fundamental theorem of calculus. Prerequisite: ACT math score of 32 or higher Fundamentals of Speech Communication 3 college credits This class includes communication theory as well as speech preparation and delivery. Students will take part in a variety of experiences that develop basic concepts of the oral communication process. The course requires a reading placement test score, Category 1, or an ACT test score of 20. General Psychology 1100 3 college credits This course is a survey of the study of behavior and mental processes with emphasis on the scientific nature of the contemporary psychological investigation. Topics discussed include research methods, the biology of behavior, sensation and perception, stress and adjustment, learning, memory, cognition, motivation, emotion, life-span development of behavior, personality, abnormal behavior and its therapies, social behavior and individual differences. Introduction to Business 1100 3 college credits Students will receive an introduction to the environment and functions of business. Organization and operation of business, the relationships of business to society, and the dominant field and types of business are surveyed. Functions studied include marketing, finance, production, management, retailing, wholesaling, advertising, risk, pricing, personnel and business environment. Introduction to Computer Keyboarding 1100 2 college credits This beginning keyboarding course is designed for the student with no prior or limited keyboarding experience. Topics include word processing function and basic formatting of documents. Introduction to Education 1100 3 college credits Students will receive an introduction to teaching as a profession in the American education system. This course offers a variety of perspectives on education, including historical, philosophical, social, legal and ethical issues in a diverse society. Organizational structure and school governance will also be covered. A 15 clock-hour field experience is required beyond classroom time. Glen Crest Middle School, Session 1 Monday to Friday—Monday, June 11, to Monday, July 2 Mathematics Introduction to Philosophy 1100 3 college credits This course introduces the student — through the study of knowledge, reality and human conduct — to the discipline that inquires into human nature and the world. It was designed to increase students’ selfawareness and ability to think. The course requires a reading placement test score, Category 1 or an ACT test score of 20. Survey of Health Careers 1100 2 college credits This course provides an exploration of various allied health professions, including diagnostic, medical information, rehabilitation and patient care services. Statistics — Math 1635 4 college credits This course combines elements of descriptive and inferential statistics. Topics include the following: probability principles and their use in developing probability distributions; binomial, normal student-t, chi-square and F distributions; hypothesis testing, estimation, contingency tables, linear regression and correlation and one-way ANOVA.
