Join us for a day <strong>of</strong> mystery. Fact or fiction — you<br />
decide! Class schedule is listed below. Early (7 to<br />
9 a.m.), lunch, and late (2:50 to 6 p.m.) supervision<br />
is included. Students may bring a sack lunch or<br />
purchase a lunch at Parkview. Fact or Fiction Friday<br />

Camp Activity Descriptions<br />
Ancient Egypt Death Rituals<br />
The Egyptians believed rituals were essential to grant<br />
immortality in the afterlife. Learn the importance<br />
<strong>of</strong> mummification, death rituals and burial items<br />
to Egyptian society, as well as some <strong>of</strong> the curses<br />
related to these rituals.<br />
Bermuda Triangle<br />
Located in the Northwestern Atlantic Ocean, the<br />
Bermuda Triangle is thought to possess unexplainable<br />
supernatural powers based on the disappearance<br />
<strong>of</strong> aircraft and ships in its vicinity. Researchers have<br />
never been able to find the exact cause <strong>of</strong> these<br />
disappearances.<br />

Cryptozoology<br />
Sasquatch, Loch Ness Monster, Colossal Squid—are<br />
they real or just hoaxes? Cryptozoology is the science<br />
<strong>of</strong> hidden animals. While these legendary creatures<br />
may be the most sought out and least confirmed,<br />
they are far from the only creatures that have been<br />
pursued throughout the years. Learn about the<br />
legends and hoaxes, as well as creatures that have<br />
been confirmed.<br />
Indiana Jones Adventures<br />
Crystal skulls, the Holy Grail, the Ark <strong>of</strong> the Covenant —<br />
were Indiana Jones’s exploits based on fact or fiction?<br />
may bring a sack lunch or purchase a lunch at<br />
Parkview. Friday Field Trips are available at the<br />
Parkview Elementary School location only.<br />
Mayan Calendar<br />
Does the end <strong>of</strong> the Mayan calendar system,<br />
December 12, 2012, predict doomsday? Learn and<br />
discuss the many theories <strong>of</strong> interpretation regarding<br />
the Mayan calendar.<br />
Roswell UFO Crash<br />
What really happened in Roswell on July 4, 1947?<br />
Something crashed to the ground that night, but<br />
what it was remains a mystery. Was it an alien UFO,<br />
a weather balloon or something else?<br />

Brookfield Zoo<br />
Join us for a fun-filled day at Brookfield Zoo, where<br />
you can visit your favorite animal exhibits and learn<br />
about their habitats. Students not attending <strong>Explore</strong>r<br />
Day Camp should bring a sack lunch and water bottle.<br />
Fossil Dig<br />
Experience the excitement and adventure <strong>of</strong> fossil<br />
hunting at Mazon Creek in Coal City. Paleontologist<br />
Rob Sula discusses the importance <strong>of</strong> fossils, as<br />
well as the types <strong>of</strong> fossils you might find, collect<br />
and take home from the site. Students should bring<br />
a sack lunch and water bottle. Class will meet in the<br />
Field Studies Center.<br />
Morton Arboretum<br />
At The Morton Arboretum, imagination lives. Join<br />
us as we explore and learn among trees and the<br />
natural world, as well as play in the children’s garden.<br />
Students not attending <strong>Explore</strong>r Day Camp should<br />
bring a sack lunch.<br />

Sci-Tech Museum<br />
At Sci-Tech, science is an adventure! <strong>Explore</strong> and<br />
play with interactive exhibits, which make learning<br />
fun. There are more than 200 hands-on exhibits for<br />
students to explore. Students not attending <strong>Explore</strong>r<br />
Day Camp should bring a sack lunch.
