High School Credit Course Descriptions
Business and
Consumer Education
Consumer Education
This equivalent of one semester of high school
Consumer Education promotes the study of financial
principles and consumer practices on which
individual and family welfare depend. Topics include:
career planning, budgeting, taxes, insurance,
housing, investments, buying techniques, product
evaluation and consumer resources.
Economics
This course is the equivalent to one semester of
high school Economics. It is a study of the American
economic system and its role in the global economy.
Topics include money, taxes, investment, supply and
demand, labor issues, international trade and global
economic systems.
Computer Applications
This course is designed to assist students with
computer skills needed for success in high school
and beyond. Proficiency in Microsoft Office
programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access
and Publisher to building simple Web pages (for a
more in-depth Web building course, see Web Design
description). Keyboard speed and technique are
developed through drills and additional assignments.
Prerequisite: Keyboarding
Computer Graphics
In this computer-driven course, students learn 2-D
and 3-D designs commonly used in commercial art.
Grades are given based on class projects. Contact
your guidance counselor for credit eligibility.

All courses are offered on campus in Glen Ellyn unless
otherwise noted.
Test Preparation
ACT Test Prep
Review math, science reasoning, reading and English
usage in preparation for the ACT exam. Practice
under simulated testing conditions using authentic
ACT questions. Textbook included.

Health
This course is the equivalent of one semester of high
school Health, covering mental health, human sexuality,
nutrition, disease, drugs, safety and first aid.
Foods and Nutrition
This one-semester class includes topics that
impact daily nutrition and wellness practices on
long-term health and wellness: physical, social
and psychological aspects of healthy nutrition and
wellness choices; selection and preparation of
Guidelines and My Plate activities; safety, sanitation,
storage and issues associated with nutrition and
wellness; impacts of science and technology on
nutrition and wellness issues; and nutrition and
wellness career paths.
Group Study Skills
Students in grades 10 to 12 learn valuable study skills
to enhance academic performance. This condensed
course offers strategies on organization, test taking
reading for comprehension and note taking. Please
bring a pencil/pen and spiral notebook.
