BOUNDARY BANTERBen Warren-Smith: Beware the sleeping giant, BWS.Ben Waterworth: Who? Frosty? The man never sleeps. He’s always talking to people on the phone.BWS: Not Frosty you dill. An even bigger giant.BW: Must be large.BWS: Well when you’ve got 19 Division 1 premiership cupsin your trophy cabinet, you’re in the right to label yourselvesa giant.BW: Ah! The Vermont Football Club? The giants of theEFL?BWS: Well the Eagles have towered over many sides overmany years, not so much over the past two years, but maybethey are back to their intimidating best in 2012.BW: They made Scoresby look second-rate last weekend. Acomplete form reversal compared to the Round 15 clash wesaw.BWS: Even more impressive, did it with no Ryan Mullett orHeath Black.BW: No Mullett, no Black, no worries.BWS: Rowville had no worries with Mooroolbark last weekend.BW: Going to put my hand up and say I jumped off theHawks’ bandwagon too quickly.BWS: Don’t jump back on too quickly.BW: It’s hard not to after such an impressive performance.Outplayed the Mustangs from the opening bounce. Good tosee Cody Morris back in some good goal kicking form too.BWS: Speaking of impressive performances, not a badeffort by Balwyn to get the chocolates over Noble Park lastweekend.BW: Pretty emotional day from what I hear. Dedicatedthe win to the late Shaun Bergin, who was in that welldocumentedon-field collision 12 months ago. The Tigersjust found a way to win.BWS: No three-peat for the Bulls! Surprised?BW: Not really. All good things must come to an end.BWS: Injuries have killed the Bulls of late. Just became alittle too difficult.BW: North Ringwood had a full list to choose from lastweekend and made the most of it!BWS: Saints through to a second consecutive Division 3Grand Final. Solid performance against the Glen WaverleyHawks from start to finish.BW: Heard the Hawks were pretty undisciplined. They’llneed to turn that around sooner rather than later.BWS: Well their division’s namesake was super, knockingover Ringwood.BW: My man finally came to the party! Jason Heath bootedseven goals to lead his side to a comfortable victory.BWS: You love him.BW: On his day, he’s as good as any other forward inDivision 3. Strong hands, good on the lead, accurate andlong left-foot kick. Dangerous to say the least.BWS: Speaking of dangerous, South Belgrave lookeddangerous for a quarter against The Basin last weekend. Butthe undefeated Bears showed their class.BW: Glassborrow’s men go straight into the Division 4‘Choose Tap’ Grand Final. Still undefeated. A phenomenaleffort.BWS: As phenomenal as Silvan’s efforts to go from secondlastin 2011 to a ‘Choose Tap’ preliminary final in 2012?BW: Two different kinds of situations, but it’s hard not toadmire the Cats’ achievements.BWS: No matter what happens today, the Cats should beproud of their efforts this season. Chris Goodlet has done aremarkable job with this playing group.BW: Well, while you’re at it, can Silvan knock- off SouthBelgrave?BWS: No, not quite at South Belgrave’s standard yet. TheSaints will be desperate to avenge last weekend’s loss. Expectthe Saints’ back six to keep Froud and co pretty quiet, whileAppleby and Bakens will kick a winning score up the other end.BW: Agree. Some of the Saints’ quieter players lastweekend, such as Apps and Appleby, will lift and help theirteam to victory.BWS: What about ‘Hawk-off IV’?BW: Mick Gaul’s men have had Boronia’s measure in 2012,winning the previous three ‘Hawk-offs’. Going on 2012form, you’d think Glen Waverley Hawks should get up, butit’s hard not to think about tipping Boronia.BWS: Which is why I think Boronia will win. DrewO’Hare’s men had more scoring shots then Glen WaverleyHawks two weeks ago and could’ve easily won the game. After such a great win last weekend, going for Boronia tocause a mini upset.BW: So a Boronia-North Ringwood Grand Final?BWS: Reckon.BW: Reckon you need to get off the fence and tip a winnerbetween Norwood and Vermont.BWS: Fascinating clash this one. The Eagles pummelledNorwood earlier this season, but the Norsemen’s abilityto bounce back and finish on top of the ladder has goneunder the radar. Yes the game isn’t at Mullum Reserve, yesthe Eagles have more experience. But get the feeling KevTibaldi’s men will be ripe for this one.BW: Can’t agree. Was too impressed by Vermont lastweekend. The Eagles have the class, the form and the biggameexperience. They should win.BWS: Not agreeing on a lot so far my friend.BW: I know! But, like me, you’re a huge Scoresby fan.Agree Scott Whyte’s men can bounce back?BWS: Yeah I do. Perhaps last weekend was the reality checkthe Magpies needed. So many players were down on form, which can be a good thing, because it means they’re due fora big one. Reckon the ‘Pies over Balwyn.BW: Agree. Scoresby had the loss it needed to have lastweekend. Motivation won’t be hard to find now. ‘Pies formine too.BWS: Righto, the big one. The Division 2 ‘Choose Tap’Grand Final. Rowville or Montrose?BW: You’ll have to flick to page seven to find out.BWS: Teaser.BW: Hint, reckon their might be large celebrations at theend of Canterbury Road on Saturday night.BWS: Well I reckon the celebrations will be out at Stud Road!BW: You’ll be crashing the party, no matter where it is.BWS: Can’t wait!3 THE EASTERN FOOTBALLER 2012
