Highlights of 2005/06
In the last academic year we raised €86 million –
the largest amount ever in a single year – and our
endowment fund grew to €75 million (based on
current market value). Alumni contributed an
extraordinary €4.2 million to the school: €2.6
million through the INSEAD Alumni Fund and
an additional €1.6 million in one-off gifts.
A major highlight of the year was of course the
pledge from the Abu Dhabi Education Council
to create our centre for research and executive
education in the United Arab Emirates. With the
agreement signed in September 2006, the centre
will build up its activities through 2007, with
research projects in healthcare and corporate
governance already set to be amongst the first
beneficiaries. Executive Education programmes
will also run before the end of this academic year.
The impact on INSEAD’s research output of this
development will be significant. More than this,
the centre is a unique opportunity to both learn
about and contribute to a fascinating and
important region of the world.
Another important event this year was the
opening of the regional research centre near
Tel Aviv in Israel thanks to the Caesarea Edmond
Benjamin de Rothschild Foundation
and their deputy chairman Avraham Bigger.

At the same time, we are looking forward to the
opening of a second centre for research into
entrepreneurship in Mumbai, the result of a gift
from INSEAD friend and former banker, Victor
Menezes. Our aim is for INSEAD to connect with
India’s leading entrepreneurs, absorbing ideas
and gaining insight into how their key challenges
are resolved. The work of the resident research
staff will be overseen by the Rudolf and Valeria
Maag International Centre for Entrepreneurship,
based in Singapore and itself the result of a
generous gift in the previous academic year.
Other achievements from previous years have
borne further fruit. The André and Rosalie
Hoffmann Chair in Family Enterprise was
awarded to Professor Morten Hansen, while
Charles Galunic was appointed to the Aviva Chair
in Leadership and Responsibility. And Ludo Van
der Heyden, Christine Blondel and Randel
Carlock, of the Wendel International Centre for
Family Enterprise were winners of the Family
Business Network Research Honours 2006 award
for the best published research article on family
business practices, ‘Fair Process: Striving for
Justice in Family Firms’.
