The fifth-seeded Golden Eagles had a tough match against fourthseededSchoolcraft College (16–1) of Michigan, who beat the Golden Eagles 2–1.After the devastating defeat, the Golden Eagles headed into the second roundof competition against Anne Arundel Community College of Maryland. Winner ofthat game headed into the fifth-seed bracket.The Golden Eagles sat at fifth seed against the eighth-seeded Anne Arundel. TheGolden Eagles defeated Anne Arundel 3-2 with just a minute and second before thegame went into overtime.Monica Lubin scored two goals in the game including the game winner, andEmi Yamamoto added one.After battling it out at nationals Nov. 21, the Golden Eagles earned sixth placeafter Iowa Western’s Chamea Palmer scored a lone goal in the first half, whichended the Golden Eagles’ journey.The Golden Eagles’ final record was 19–5–1. Coach Jim Gardner said, “I’m reallyproud of the girls for the way they played.”Throughout the 2010 season the LCCC Golden Eagles swooped their competitionin ravage fashion, devouring all who came before them. The women battledhard and excelled in defense, shutting out their opponents’ 11 of the 22 gamesplayed this season.The Golden Eagles ended their season sixth in the nation, which is the highestranking since their last ranking in 2007 when they were fourth in the nation fortwo-year colleges.Golden Eagles’ forward Emi Yamamoto made this year’s NJCAA national ranking,placing seventh in the nation with 55 total points. Also making the NJCAAnational ranking was goalie Lauren Pelkey, who placed 15th in the nation in goalsagainst average, surrendering 0.53 goals a game.The Golden Eagles wrapped up their season on a positive note as they prepareto lose some of their key players next season such as Pelkey, Yamamoto forwardAmanda Halter, midfielder Cori Mizel, and defenders Melissa Ledesma andCorrina Powel, with 13 players returning.Basketball bluesGolden Eagles off to a slow start in 2010Daniel StelleBehind enemy linesEditor goes across the border for interviewCornhusker connectionNebraska riders shine in WRA Finals
