SHABBAT IS SATURATED TO THE BRIM WITH PURPOSEGod creates / works by His Word. He declares and things start to happen untilthe complete universe is in place.Genesis 1:31 “ 31 And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, itwas very good (suitable, pleasant) and He approved it completely. And therewas evening and there was morning, a sixth day.Now Paul tells us about a Spiritual Principle, namely that the physical will bemanifested before the spiritual can come to being.1 Corinthians 15:46-49 “ 46 But it is not the spiritual life which came first, butthe physical and then the spiritual. 47 The first man [was] from out of earth, made of dust (earthly-minded); the second Man [is] the Lord from out ofheaven. 48 Now those who are made of the dust are like him who was firstmade of the dust (earthly-minded); and as is [the Man] from heaven, so also[are those] who are of heaven (heavenly-minded). 49 And just as we haveborne the image [of the man] of dust, so shall we and so let us also bear theimage [of the Man] of heaven. As soon as something God has asked us to do has been manifested in thephysical, we can stand before God, at the Portal / doorway to the Spiritualdomain.Isaiah 45:1-3 “ 1 THUS SAYS the Lord to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose righthand I have held to subdue nations before him, and I will unarm and ungirdthe loins of kings to open doors before him, so that gates will not be shut. 2 Iwill go before you and level the mountains [to make the crooked placesstraight]; I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut asunder the bars ofiron. 3 And I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches ofsecret places, that you may know that it is I, the Lord, the God of Israel, Whocalls you by your name. When we connect with God, He reveals the Spiritual reality, reflected by thepattern on earth. We see the earth, the sea and the Garden of Eden in thephysical.Genesis 2:1 “ 1 THUS THE heavens and the earth were finished, and all thehost of them.At that Portal or doorway, the transition from the Sixth Day into the Shabbat,God comes to bless and sanctify it.Genesis 2:3 “ 3 And God blessed (spoke good of) the seventh day, set it apartas His own, and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all His work whichHe had created and done.15
We see here that God declares that He rests from that which He made………… and yet goes on to say “to accomplish to do”.God rests, yet at the same time He accomplishes.God rests from the physical work because He has now also completed theentrance to the Spiritual world – the Shabbat.Everything that God made – every plant, fish, animal; every seed of life hadbut one purpose – that was to point to the Shabbat. The Shabbat points, not to a day of doing nothing, of avoiding “work” but aday to push through into God’s realm of the spiritual.ShabbatMESSIAHSunday, Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday,Thursday, FridayPhysical domainSpiritual domainThis “dress rehearsal” of making the choice to keep the Commandment ofShabbat in a manner that reflects God’s attributes and Character is thephysical mechanism that teaches us now to meet with God.Romans 10:4 is often wrongly interpreted as “for Christ is the end of thelaw” but which should read “for Christ the goal of the Torah for righteousnessto all who believe”.In the process of the creation of the material world, God places the celestialbodies of the sun and moon to mark physical time. We will later find that eachmonth will begin on a New Moon. We will always have physical evidence ofthe start of the New Month. “No such thing” is available to start the week.God takes the Seventh Day and declares it Holy. He places His unique controlover this time declaring it Holy and separated unto Him.When we rest on Shabbat we join God in His time i.e. taking time-out of theworld and the rat race of time.16
