SHABBAT IS A PATTERN OF GOD’S REDEMPTION PLAN OVER THEAGESThe book of Genesis sets out a pattern that will be repeated throughout theTorah. In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth – Genesis 1:1.Something very destructive happens and in verse 2 we see the world in astate of chaos; the world was void and without form.God then comes with a Plan of Redemption for a New Creation.Man is given the opportunity to exercise his free-will choice to serve God bythe visible lifestyle / role modelling of obedience to His Commandments.Man is placed into place of safety. In New Testament terms, it means that welive within the boundary of the Covenantal terms.God creates this lifestyle choice with a time of victory and rest. Man alwaysreaches a fork in the road where he must decide to either choose:• God’s road / seed,• Satan’s road / seed.CREATION1. Chaos → Creation → Garden of Eden → Commandment → Shabbat2. Slavery → Freedom → Mount Sinai → Commandment → Canaan3. Lost → New Creation → Golgotha → Commandment → Victorious lifeIf we study these patterns, we will see that the Holy Shabbat / Canaan /Victorious life are all symbols of a time of absolute surrender to God andcomplete protection for His Covenantal partners. The Bible records thesymbol and the sign of man’s choice of not to follow God’s pattern namely thesnake, the Golden Calf, and our own ego.It is therefore difficult to see how a New Testament Believer can claim thepower of life (a victorious life) if they are not prepared to submit to the visible /tangible acknowledgement that the keeping of Shabbat is God’s Perfect Willand plan for us.The progression of this pattern can be summarized as follows:• The Garden of Eden and the Shabbat as a Seal,• The Garden of the Tabernacle and the Cloud of Glory as a Seal,• the Garden of Messiah and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.22
