Comm. Brown: During the public portion we are going to listen to you - the public. Wewill take your comments, dialogue, and then come back with answers with theadministration.Ms. Williams: Okay.Comm. Brown: But Dr. Glascoe will add some other comments.Dr. Glascoe: Let me just add something. When there are issues and people come tothe Board and speak during the public comments and the comments run from generalsituations to something specific, it really would help this Superintendent if you put thisinformation in writing, bring it with you, and make copies if you will. If you can't makecopies just give it to us so that we have something documented and written with yourinformation on it and someone can get back to you right away.Ms. Williams: Okay.Dr. Glascoe: That would be very helpful. That cuts through a lot of time.Ms. Williams: Or the E-mail, right?Dr. Glascoe: Sure. You can do that.Ms. Williams: Okay.Comm. Brown: I would like to make a recommendation like I did earlier. Whateverquestions you want to raise at the Board meeting, if you can get us the information priorto you can still do your presentation and then the administration can give you all of youranswers. Rather than the night of the meeting, if you can do it in advance we wouldappreciate it. Thank you very much.Dr. Glascoe: May I just add one last thing too? I would hope that those individuals whoare making their comments have attempted to have some resolution.Ms. Williams: Invite me to the meeting and I will give you some solutions.Dr. Glascoe: I would hope that individuals coming to the microphone making theirpublic comments with specific concerns would have tried to address them beforecoming. I don’t know whether that is the case or not. If you have a situation at SchoolX, it would be more time conscious for you if you went directly to the school first to try toresolve that problem. I feel that maybe some of the comments are coming directly tothe School Board and to the microphone without going that route. If I am wrong I standcorrected. But if I am correct I would ask folks to do that and it would be more timeconscious for you if you did that. Talking to me now means that I will go back to thelowest level possible to get to the bottom of the problem, then recycle it back up andback to you for a response.Ms. Williams: Okay. But the reason I came, Dr. Glascoe, is because this is not just atan individual school. This is district problem.Dr. Glascoe: I understand that. Comm. Brown: I believe this is the last speaker. Please state your name for the record.Mr. Carlos Madura: Good evening, Dr. Glascoe and Board members. My name isCarlos Madura. I was a student at Kennedy from 1993 to 1997. I went to college downin Atlanta and I came back to Paterson because I am very proud of being in Paterson. Iwas very proud to actually play sports here where I came to school. Everybody else’squestions come as an education, which is still an issue in Paterson. We all know that.It is in the papers and it is everywhere. My main concern with Paterson is everybodyworries about education and it is a great thing to worry about it. My biggest concern is Isee that one thing that saved me from ever getting into trouble and kept me focused ongetting good grades in school was sports. I played baseball and I played soccer forKennedy. I don’t know if it is in your area, but I just figured I would bring it up. I amlooking at the agenda and there are millions of dollars. Yet, I played baseball atHinchliffe Stadium and that is gone. Totowa Oval, which was a park in honor of JamesLabinara, which was my coach and a great guy who gave a lot to Paterson, you look atthat field and it is embarrassing. Honestly, that is the word. My coach for soccer thisyear had a couple of games cancelled because there is no field to play on. And theseare the people who come to Paterson to play. They say they are not going to play. Iwent and took a look at the field. I thought it was them trying to act like they are fromWayne. There was glass and boulders in the field. So I guess my concern is reallysimple. If we are trying to keep people out of trouble and if we are trying to makePaterson a better place education is a way to start. But I feel like the whole east side ofPaterson is getting a lot of great things and yet the west side of Paterson is getting kindof ignored here. The east side has the brand new stadium. They have the brand newbaseball field. Yet Labby’s field is completely ignored, which is Kennedy’s. We used toplay here at Totowa Oval. We used to play baseball and soccer there. You can't dothat anymore. I just figured I would bring this up because everybody is kind ofconcerned with a lot of education, but part of a school system is the extracurricular. SoI just figured I would bring that up.Comm. Spagnola: Thank you. What other speakers do we have for the public session?One other? Okay. Afterward I am going to put a motion on the floor to close.Ms. Malikah Abdullah: Malikah Abdullah. I have heard some disturbing news and itwas one of the pet peeves I had when I sat as a Commissioner on the School Board. Iknow that we are doing a lot of hiring in the district at this particular time. But what isdisturbing to me is that I am told that Board members are not allowed to be able to seeresumes of who is being hired or have any information as to what these people areabout. That was one of the very disturbing things that happened with thesuperintendent back then. With the state being involved and superintendents beingallowed to make unilateral decisions on personnel, it becomes a very disturbingsituation because of what has happened in the district over the last 13 years. If we hadBoard members looking in on the people we are hiring then maybe we can make betterchoices on who we choose to run our district. I think that is something that needs to beconsidered and I think it would behoove you, Dr. Glascoe, if you would include Boardmembers in your decision-making and allow them to see the resumes of who you arehiring and let them be a part of that process. Thank you.It was moved by Comm. Hodges, seconded by Comm. Santiago that the PublicComments portion of the meeting be closed. On roll call all members voted in theaffirmative.
