Resolution No. A-3WHEREAS, the Paterson Public School District wishes to provide after-schoolprograms that encompass an array of inclusive and supervised services that will assiststudents to meet state and local standards in core academic subjects, as well asprovide recreational, health and technology activities; andWHEREAS, the Paterson Public School District has planned collaboratively with a widearray of community based partners with proven records in providing services to youth inour community; andWHEREAS, the Paterson Public School District has proposed a comprehensiveprogram to serve our community by providing safe, drug-free, supervised, after-schooland Saturday programs for children, youth and their families; and now thereforeBE IT RESOLVED, that the Paterson Board of Education approves the Contract to hireSt. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, Life Support Education Center to provide a Safe-Sitters Program for (12) weeks, (3) classes (First Aid “Friends & Families”) 36participants and (1) class (CPR Training) 12 participants. The program dates will bedetermined beginning November 10, 2005 through June 30, 2006. This contract will notexceed $3510.Resolution No. A-4WHEREAS, the Paterson Community Health Center (PCHC) has received a grant fromthe Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to develop a school based dental screening, oralhealth education, fluoride and sealant program called “Seal Your Smile”. Serving 10underserved community schools, the purpose of the program is to improve access tocare and to reduce the incidence of caries among Paterson’s poor, minority anduninsured children; andWHEREAS, upon parental consent, the program will see children with an initial focuson 2 nd and 6 th graders to coincide with the eruption of primary and secondary permanentmolars. Children will be screened for existing caries, receive fluoride rinses and dentalsealants with referral as needed for restorative services; andWHEREAS, a PCHC Dentist and Dental Assistant will visit the identified schools on ascheduled basis and provide services through the use of portable equipment, screening,education, and preventative services in a culturally/linguistically appropriate manner;andWHEREAS, oral health education curriculum will be provided at chair side by theDentist and in the classroom by the Dental Assistant to teach basic oral health conceptsto children, and dental supplies will be sent home with the children; andWHEREAS, the dental outreach, screening and sealant program will serve the 2 nd and6 th graders in the following 10 Paterson Public Schools: #4, #5, #6, #9, #12, #17, #20,#28, EWK and NSW; andWHEREAS, students needing restorative services will be referred to the PCHC dentalclinic for care; and now thereforePage 17 11/9/05
