Thepark lies between the northern sandplainto the west, where a remarkable varietyof woody heath plants fl ower profuselyduring the wildfl ower season and thearid lands of the Murchison, where winterrains can trigger a late fl owering of winterannuals. Aptly named ‘Coalseam’, thiswell known geological site is where thefi rst coal deposits in Western Australiawere discovered by the GregoryBrothers in 1846. Wildfl owers of allvarieties are in abundance here, withcarpets of pink, gold, cream and whiteeverlastings transforming the usuallysparse understorey of wattle scrub duringthe wildfl ower season.
